ISLAMABAD, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's latest visit to Pakistan will further enhance the all-weather strategic relationship between the two countries, Pakistani media said Sunday.Pakistan's media gave extensive coverage to Wen's visit. They made special reports highlighting various aspects of the China-Pakistan friendship and the assistance of both countries extended to each other in disaster management.The strategic partnership will be advanced as a package of agreements were signed during Wen's three-day visit, the official news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported."Chinese support for the youth mobilization, reconstruction plan for flood affected people and strengthening of economic ties are laudable steps which will directly benefit the people of Pakistan," Pakistani federal minister for women development Firdous Ashiq Awan told APP.Wen's visit has opened a new chapter in bilateral ties, she added.China extended full support to Pakistan's sovereignty, security and political integrity besides extending strong support in economic cooperation, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir was quoted as saying by local newspaper Daily Times.Pakistan and China signed a series of agreements to cement the pragmatic economic and trade cooperation, which will take the bilateral political trust and understanding to a new high, DAWN newspaper reported.Tariq Puri, chief executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, told DAWN that there was great scope for consolidating trade between the two countries, adding the current business summit would definitely pave the way for its increasing.The visit of Chinese premier to Pakistan will bolster confidence in facing current challenges, international affairs experts told local media.The visit would send a reassuring signal to Pakistan, which is surrounded by a host of problems, challenges and difficulties. Over the decades, China has been a trusted and reliable friend of Pakistan and has been always ready to help it when in need, Riffat Hussain, head of the department of Defense and Strategic Studies of the Quaid-e-Azam University was quoted as saying by APP.Premier Wen left Islamabad for home on Sunday after rounding off the three-day visit to Pakistan.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's rapid economic growth is good for the U.S. workers, and the U.S. government is committed to improving bilateral economic relations with China, said U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke on Thursday."China has lifted almost 200 million people out of poverty (in the past two decades). And in the years ahead, hundreds of millions more Chinese will ascend into the middle class," Locke said at a U.S.-China commercial relations forum, which was held in Washington ahead of the U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) session scheduled for Dec. 14-15."The United States welcomes this growth because this is good for the people of China ... it's good for the global economy, and good for U.S. business and ultimately, U.S. workers," said Locke.He noted that as recently as 40 years ago, the commercial relationship between the United States and China barely existed. But in the recent decades, "we have seen our countries grow progressively closer."In 2009, the bilateral trade volume reached some 365 billion dollars. China was the largest supplier of U.S. goods imports in 2009 and was the third-largest market for U.S. exports, only after Canada and Mexico.Locke mentioned that as U.S. Commerce Secretary, he has visited China for four times."Each time I visit China, I'm absolutely amazed by the transformation and the progress within China," he said.Locke noted that although there are disagreements between the two sides, there are more opportunities for cooperation."In many areas, especially in emerging industries, like clean energy and biotechnology, the interests of China and the United States are tied together. And the reform as good for the U.S. will be good for China as well," he added.Locke also revealed that during the upcoming 21st session of the JCCT in Washington D.C., the two countries will seek to further "nurture and improve the most highly-scrutinized bilateral economic relationship on Earth.""This is our most important bilateral dialogue or mechanism for resolving trade and investment issues between our two countries," he stressed.The session will be co-chaired by Locke and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will also join the dialogue.

DUSHANBE, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- China and Tajikistan will enhance high-level contacts, expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields to fully develop their relations of good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation, said a joint communique signed on Thursday by the two countries.Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao signed the communique with his Tajik counterpart Akil Akilov in his two-day visit to the Central Asian nation. BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Thursday said BRIC has accepted South Africa as a full member of the group, which currently includes Brazil, Russia, India and China.Yang, during a phone conversation with his South African counterpart Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, said Chinese President Hu Jintao would issue an invitation letter to South African President Jacob Zuma, inviting him to attend the third BRIC leaders' meeting to be held in Beijing next year.Yang said that China, as the current rotating chair of BRIC, believes South Africa's accession will promote the development of BRIC and enhance the cooperation of emerging market economies.On behalf of the South African government and President Zuma, Nkoana-Mashabane said, "I would like to express our sincere appreciation towards President Hu's invitation."South Africa is ready to step up communication and coordination with China and other BRIC members for mutually-beneficial cooperation, the minister added.Later in the day, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hailong forwarded to Bheki Langa, South African Ambassador to China, the letter by President Hu.
