The special event will take place every weekend until SeaWorld can fully open. The park's attractions will be very limited, with guests able to enjoy all outdoor animals exhibits and shows."We’re opening as an accredited zoo and you can come in and enjoy all the live animal presentations we’re world famous for like the Orca Encounter, dolphins, Sea Lions Live and all the outdoor exhibits that people love and miss," said SeaWorld Park President Marilyn Hannes..Among closed signs for indoor exhibits, game rooms and rides, guests will also notice dozens of sanitizer stations, distance markers and download codes for digital park maps spread throughout.Visitors will also be able to continue enjoying the tide pool areas. "The water is highly filtrated, each of the systems were designed to be a touch pool so they have a high filtration and so that constant turnout makes it safe to do the interaction," Hannes said.Although some of the attractions are closed, Hannes said new ones will take its place, adding, "We’ve opened up Vistas to the Bay so we have a new waterfront area where you can that ocean breeze and try craft beers."Zoo Days will take place every Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. The event has a limited capacity and purchasing a ticket online acts as a reservation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego residents have more access to public parks than other major California cities but parts of the county are falling behind, according to a study by the Equinox Project.78 percent of San Diegans live within a half-mile of a park in city limits, the study showed in an analysis of 2016 data. Overall, the city had almost 35 acres of park land per 1,000 residents.Mayor Faulconer credits proper budgeting as a reason for having so many parks in the city."Our neighborhood parks need to reflect that. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Board of Supervisors Wednesday approved a new initiative to encourage homeowners in the county's unincorporated areas to develop "granny flats" to help ease the region's housing shortage.The initiative will waive county permit and development impact fees over the next five years for property owners who want to build granny flats or other small dwellings on lots with existing homes. The hope is those units will then be used for family members or rented out as a source of income for property owners.The waivers apply to property owners in the county's unincorporated areas, including Alpine, Julian, Fallbrook, Lakeside, and Valley Center, as part of the county's General Plan.MAKING IT IN SAN DIEGO: Family chooses 'granny flat' option with San Diego's lower fees“This is a critical step in our on-going efforts to address the region’s housing crisis, especially the serious need for affordable housing,” Dianne Jacob, the board chairwoman, said in a release. “This new program is the quickest and easiest way for us to expedite the development of housing.”To cover the cost of the fee waivers, the county will pump million into the program over the five-year period.“There is no single solution to the regional housing shortage, but an average savings of ,000 for an accessory home will raise property values and offer more affordable places to live,” Supervisor Jim Desmond said in a release. “We will continue to be creative and challenge the status quo to solve the region’s housing crisis.” 1545

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego State University resumed some in-person classes Monday, allowing several thousand students to come back to campus.Monday was the first time students were allowed at school since in-person classes were suspended in September due to the rising number of reported positive COVID-19 cases, both on and off campus.SDSU fine arts graduate student Naomi Chicoine has been taking classes almost entirely online this semester because of the outbreaks on and off campus.She said, "The hardest part is not knowing what's going to happen next. Are we going to be able to stay on campus or not?”The school has nearly 1,200 cases since school started in late August. At one point, the case numbers were high enough to put San Diego County at risk of being knocked out of the state of California’s red tier and into the stricter purple tier.Students are now being asked to do self-assessments and stay home if they're feeling sick.Before they go into a class, students get their temperature checked at one of two kiosks on campus. A device scans their temperature, then displays green or red, indicating if they are fever-free.Students get a wristband if they're cleared, which is date-stamped, and it allows them to go to class. The process takes less than a minute and saves professors from having to scan students themselves.Everyone coming onto campus for class -- students and staff -- is also required to get tested at least every 14 days.The school is also promising to strictly enforce mask and social distancing compliance. Classes are limited to mostly those required by students for graduation, around 3,000 students per week who will come to campus.The California State University system has also expanded SDSU's ability to enforce policies. They say they're issuing citations to students and staff who don't comply with the rules.Students could also face additional consequences, such as suspension or expulsion, according to a letter from the university president. 2000

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Siblings are frantically searching for their missing mother, after she walked out of Hospital Angeles in Tijuana Friday afternoon, according to her family.Jessica Puente, 73, accompanied her daughter, Johnica, for a surgery. When Johnica woke up, her mother was gone. "First thing I was like where's my mom, where's my mom? And they were like we don't know where she went," Johnica said.After questioning staff, a security monitor revealed Jessica walked out while speaking with the security guard at 11 a.m. Jessica asked the guard where to exchange money, Johnica said. She thinks her mom was going to find something to eat."We'll leave no stone unturned in Tijuana," her brother said Sunday night. He and their other brother flew into San Diego over the weekend, from their Seattle home, to help with the search."We tried to call the consulate but they're closed, we um called all these hospitals, we even went to the morgue, they went to the morgue this morning to see if there are any unidentified bodies," Johnica said they filed a police report with San Diego PD, passed out fliers in Mexico and have been using their connections to churches to spread the word.Johnica described her mother as shy, and says when she gets tired, she can get a little confused. She said her mother liked to dress up with flowers in her hair, jewelry, "her jacket and her shoes, she always liked to match, even though she's almost 73." Jessica is not only a mother of three, but grandmother to a little boy and girl, both under 10-years-old.When we asked how Johnica was able to stay so calm while talking about her mother's disappearance, she replied, "I don't know I just believe that she'll come up.
