SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police arrested a suspect following an early-morning shooting in the Gaslamp Quarter that left one man dead. The shooting was reported at around 2 a.m. Monday on Market Street at 5th Avenue, according to San Diego police.According to several witnesses, the shooting erupted following an argument outside of a venue between two groups of people. Witnesses told 10News the victim swung a folding sign at a group of men when one person in the group opened fire.The 33-year-old victim suffered at least one gunshot wound, and police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.RELATED: Friends remember father killed in Gaslamp shooting After the gunfire, witnesses said two men got into a cab and left the scene. However, police stopped the cab a short distance away and detained the men for questioning.Jonathan Hernandez, 23, was arrested after the shooting and booked into jail for murder. Shaun Spearman, a friend of the victim, told 10News that his friend “just had a heart of gold, always took care of people.”Spearman continued, “He’s the one that deescalates things … I’ve seen him, multiple times, have to bring things down. He’s a calming guy, he knows how to talk to people … It doesn't make sense yet. I'm just trying to make sense of it.”The victim has not been officially identified.Market Street, between 4th and 5th avenues, was closed for several hours due to the investigation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Phone and tuition scams have stole more than 0,000 from the UCSD community since July, university police warn.Police say in just two months, victims within the university community have collectively lost 2,000 to suspects claiming they were with law enforcement in their home country. The scammers would demand money or threaten the victims with detention.In the case of phone scams, scammers would call and pose as an IRA employee or officer claiming to have an open case or, for international students, law enforcement of their home country. International students should refer to their local consulate for any type of government communications.When it comes to reported tuition scams, police say scammers have been targeting students with promises of tuition reduction if they use a third-party service to pay their fees. Scammers often promise a 5% tuition discount and request the victims send the reduced tuition funds. The scammers then request the victim's university credentials to pay their tuition with fraudulent or stolen credit card info. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More than a dozen migrants were apprehended after 150 migrants tried to climb the border fence in San Diego, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The incident happened New Year’s Eve at an unspecified time. According to the agency, 45 migrants turned back due to CBP’s increased presence at the border before another group of migrants started throwing rocks at agents. Border Patrol agents added that the group tried to lift toddler-sized children over the concertina wire, but agents were unable to help the children because too many rocks were being thrown. Agents used pepper spray upwind and tear gas of the migrants to try and deter them from throwing rocks. CBP says the measures weren’t aimed at the migrants and “successfully suppressed the rock throwers causing them to flee the area.”Most of the migrants returned to Mexico through a hole under the fence and by climbing back over the fence. A total of 25 migrants were apprehended. Under CHP’s use of force policy, the incident is being reviewed. The incident comes on the heels of another recent event at the border in which hundreds of migrants tried to rush the border, forcing the hours-long closure of the San Ysidro Port of Entry. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Newly unsealed court documents reveal how investigators were able to identify the suspected Church's Chicken shooter.Albert Lee Blake, 49, was arrested weeks after the shooting erupted inside of the Otay Mesa West restaurant. Blake is accused of shooting three employees and killing Maribel Ibanez. The shooting happened after an argument stemming from Blake allegedly trying to use a fake 0 dollar bill to purchase food. A number of witnesses gave similar descriptions of the man seen shooting inside of the Church's Chicken. Witnesses reported the man coming back into the restaurant after the argument, standing in line, then shooting at employees. Police ran the license plate through their database and found a match. The same vehicle was connected to a stop in September and the driver then was Albert Blake.
