(KGTV) - The Navy is taking action to assess living conditions in military housing amid complaints of rodents, mold, and water damage. Families have shared stories about housing problems with 10News over several weeks. The Navy sent a survey Monday to received feedback on the situation. Erika Bradley, a Navy wife and mother, said she arrived at MCAS Miramar last June to find mice and mold in her new home. “When my husband calls and he's in a war zone, do you think I am going to complain about mold? ‘Hey babe, we have rats where our children eat,” Bradley said. “I don't want him to worry about that because if his mind isn't focused where it needs to be, that's peoples lives.” Lawmakers are trying to push a bill through Congress that would give military families power to withhold rent from landlords. More than 700,000 people live in privatized housing across military bases. Bradley is hoping the military will put more pressure on private companies, holding them accountable. The Navy is also conducting town hall meetings and walk-throughs. 10News reached out to MCAS Miramar property management, but they did not respond. 1143

(KGTV) — On Aug. 9, 1969, the doors of Disneyland's spookiest attraction creaked open and invited guests inside to meet its ghostly residents.The spirited New Orleans Square ride was the first attraction to open without Walt Disney's direct supervision at the theme park, according to Disney. And while Disney reviewed early concepts, he didn't live long enough to see the completed ride.The idea for the mansion started in 1952 as an early concept sketch by Harper Goff when the theme park was still being developed. Construction started in 1961 and the gothic, Victorian exterior was finished in 1963. (KGTV) — Saturday, California reported that the San Joaquin Valley region, which includes 12 counties, ran out of space in its ICUs as COVID-19 cases climb.The state's website says the region, which has been under the new regional stay-at-home, has hit 0% ICU capacity. The region includes Calaveras, Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, San Benito, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tulare, and Tuolumne counties.The region's capacity sat at 4.5% a day earlier.Last week, the San Joaquin Valley and Southern California regions were placed under the state's stay-at-home order for falling under 15% ICU capacity.The Southern California region, which includes San Diego, Imperial, Inyo, Los Angeles, Mono, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties, was at 5.3% ICU capacity on Saturday. (KGTV) — President-elect Joe Biden is set to select California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to lead the pandemic response as Health and Human Services secretary.According to Associated Press sources, Becerra will be nominated to lead the department, which will require confirmation. If confirmed, he will be the first Latino to lead the department.The HHS is a -trillion-plus agency with 80,000 employees and oversees several issues including drugs and vaccines, medical research, and health insurance programs. During his time as AG, Becerra has been an advocate of the Affordable Care Act.Biden has been under increasing pressure to expand racial and ideological diversity in his Cabinet and other top jobs, the AP reported. Of the nine major picks made so far, Biden has selected two white men: Secretary of State choice Antony Blinken and chief of staff Ron Klain.Civil rights leaders have called for diverse choices for the "big four" Cabinet positions of secretaries of state, defense, treasury, and the attorney general.
