BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced there was no new reason for safety concern in Pfizer Inc's Prevenar and Sanofi Aventis SA's ActHIBor vaccines, according to media reports Tuesday.Health agencies "have not detected new safety concerns or unusual reporting patterns" in the vaccines, which are used to prevent forms of meningitis and pneumonia, FDA spokeswoman Shelly Burgess said in an emailed statement.Health agencies in the United States will continue to monitor the vaccines for safety, the spokeswoman added.The Japanese health ministry had decided to suspend the vaccines after four unexplained deaths were reported. BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- China's search giant Baidu has pledged to remove all unauthorized literary works from its free online literary database Wenku within three days.After receiving requests from copyright owners to remove their works, Baidu has sped up its process of checking for unauthorized items. The unauthorized works were uploaded by Internet users to Wenku without prior approval from the authors, a spokesman for the Chinese search engine giant said in a statement.In the statement issued Saturday, Baidu apologized for what has "hurt the feelings of a certain number of writers" during Wenku's previous stage of operation, according to a report published Sunday by daily newspaper The Beijing News.Baidu said it respects copyright laws and will continue to cooperate with publishers and writers to establish a revenue-sharing model that will ensure that copyright owners receive a share of revenues from online versions of their works.Hailing Baidu's move to remove the unauthorized works, Wang Yefei, deputy head of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Copyrights hopes that Baidu and the publishers should work together to find win-win methods of mutual cooperation, according to the newspaper.However, some writers involved in the copyright row are dissatisfied with remedies Baidu has so far taken.Shen Haobo, CEO of Beijing Motie Book Co. LOS ANGELES, April 4 (Xinhua) -- A woman's breast milk cells may be used to predict cancer in future research, according to a study published by HealthDay News on Monday.In the study, researchers at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst collected breast milk from 271 women in the United States. All had either undergone a biopsy of the breast to check for cancer, or were scheduled for one.The researchers evaluated breast milk samples from the biopsied and non-biopsied breasts.The researchers first isolated potentially cancerous cells, known as epithelial cells, and then isolated DNA to look for signals that regulate tumor suppresser genes.In the next step, the researchers analyzed three genes among the many known to undergo a process called methylation in breast cancer. Methylation in a specific region of a gene can inhibit or suppress the expression of a gene.For one gene, SFRP1, the average methylation was higher in the biopsied breast, the study found.Among the women whose biopsies detected cancer, average methylation of the RASSF1 gene in the biopsied breast was considerably higher compared to the non-biopsied breast.Among the women whose biopsies detected cancer, average methylation of the RASSF1 gene in the biopsied breast was considerably higher compared to the non-biopsied breast."It looks as if we can use the cells from breast milk to assess breast cancer risk," said Dr. Kathleen Arcaro, an associate professor of veterinary and animal sciences at the university.It's too soon, however, to assess the cancer detection rate associated with breast milk cell examination, she said."We can't say at this point for two reasons," she said. "One is, we need long-term follow-up. And the second really important reason is, we need to sample a larger panel of genes."Arcaro is to present her findings later Monday at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research in Orlando, Florida, according to HealthDay News.
