SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The names of a couple found dead in their Torrey Highlands home and the son accused of killing them were released by San Diego Police Wednesday. Xiaoqun Fang and Yi Cheng, both 58 years old, were due to arrive in San Francisco last Saturday. Concerned family members called police, asking for a welfare check at the home at 7405 Via Rivera. Upon arrival, police looked through a window and saw a body on the floor. Fang and Cheng had both suffered upper body trauma and were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Carte Hotel in the heart of Little Italy is not nearly as full as it could be.It had been open just a few months before the pandemic hit, "We had a great start until March and the virus started showing up," said general manager Henri Birmele.Like many other hotels in California, The Carte is only allowed to book rooms for essential workers.But staff is preparing for when the Governor says they can fully reopen. "We have sanitizers on every floor, every piece of equipment that's available we have throughout the building to take care of team members and hotel guests," Birmele said Common areas will be sanitized every hour, the restaurant and rooftop bar will be spaced out to make it easier to social distance, valet service won't be available, there will be at least 12 hours and a deep clean between when one person checks out and another checks in and room service will leave orders at the door instead of bringing them in. The long-term endeavor would extend service from the Santa Fe Depot to the Convention Center. The plan includes an eventual station at the Convention Center.The study is mapped out in near-, mid-, and long-term projects. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students spent Friday gathering their belongings and saying goodbye to their peers at the Art Institute of San Diego.The school's operator, the for-profit Argosy University, shut down the campus after court documents alleged it misused millions of dollars in federal funds. The move left many students angry and wondering what's next. "I feel so empty," said Marjan Razavi, about six months from graduating and ,000 in debt. "I lose my job and my education at the same time."The Institute's closure is the latest for-profit run school to abruptly shut down in San Diego. In 2018, Brightwood College closed its doors. In 2016, the giant I.T.T. Technical Institute shuttered. Derek Abbey runs the Veterans Center at San Diego State University, a population he says the for-profits target because of their education benefits. Abbey said the schools often make grand job promises, but charge higher tuition than public universities (a federal study showed double), but spend a lot of that money on advertising. "They're getting out in front of the populations that they expect are going to come to their school, and often times those are under represented populations that don't know the higher education systems," Abbey said. Abbey teaches the alternative options like attending community college and transferring to a public university - many now offering the convenience of online classes.
