ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - An Alpine woman who tested positive for COVID-19 says her quarantine turned into a nightmare as a postal carrier delivered a package.This past weekend, Tamica got a COVID test after three co-workers tested positive. She also tested positive and remains asymptomatic."Since I got that Sunday, I've been quarantining at home," said Tamica.On Tuesday, past 1 p.m., as the mail truck pulled up to her apartment off Tavern Road, her two 80-lb. dogs ran to the front door and started barking. She says the door was open but the screen door was shut, as the postal carrier stood outside, at the door, with something in his hand."They were instantly pawing at their face and backed up, and acting weird ... jumping up and down and making a whining noise," said Tamica.Tamica believes the postal carrier had used his pepper spray. At that point, Tamica says the dogs jumped on the door and pushed it open. They ran out, and she ran after them. Tamica says the letter carrier sprayed toward one dog as it ran off, before turning to her other dog."I just jumped in front of my dog. He's wasn't doing anything. He wasn't barking. He was just sitting there .... He's a golden retriever and very friendly ... The postal carrier is spraying us, yelling and just spraying wildly," Tamica said.Tamica says that went on for about a minute, and it seemed liked forever."I was mad, scared, ready to cry … yelling at him to stop, stop, stop!" said Tamica.She says he finally did. Her dogs' eyes were left shut and stinging for hours. Her eyes were also ripe with pain. Tamica filed a complaint with the Postal Service."It's outrageous. This was not warranted at all," said Tamica.A different version of events has emerged from the postal carrier's statements.According to a USPS spokesperson, he claims he never sprayed through the screen door, didn't intend to pepper-spray Tamica, and only started spraying when both dogs were outside, lunging at him, to allow him to "leave the area."The spokesperson adds that based on the statements collected, they are standing by their postal carrier's version of events. They did apologize for Tamica getting pepper-sprayed in the incident.They also issued the following statement:"The Postal Service places the safety of its employees as a top priority. Letter carriers fearing for their safety due to a loose or unrestrained pet may stop delivery and ask homeowners to pick up their mail at the Post Office until the pet is restrained. In cases where a carrier sees a dog roaming and can’t discern where it resides, delivery could be interrupted to the entire neighborhood.In 2019, San Diego ranked #10 in the country for dog attacks on letter carriers. Dogs can be protective of their territory and may interpret the actions of letter carriers as a threat. Please take precautions when accepting mail in the presence of your pet. When a carrier comes to your home, keep your dog inside, away from the door in another room. Any dog can bite. Even the friendliest dog may bite when startled or surprised. If the dog is physically or mentally unhealthy, is in pain, feels threatened, or is protecting its food or a favorite toy, it can bite.The letter carriers at your local Post Office deliver every day. And if you are a dog owner, we need you to deliver for us, too. Already under scrutiny about a dog dying in an overhead bin and another dog being accidentally sent to Japan, United Airlines on Friday acknowledged its third animal-related mistake in a week.A flight was diverted to Akron, Ohio, on Thursday after the airline realized a pet had been loaded onto the flight in error, airline spokeswoman Maggie Schmerin told CNN.Flight 3996 was carrying 33 passengers from Newark, New Jersey, to St. Louis, but the pet was due to fly from New Jersey to Akron. United told CNN the unidentified animal was "safely delivered to its owner."United said it offered compensation to all passengers as a result of the diversion. The airline declined to provide details about the compensation.There were two earlier animal-related mistakes made by United Airlines this week.Tuesday, a 10-year-old German shepherd named Irgo was flown to Japan when he was supposed to end up in Kansas. In Irgo's place was a Great Dane that was supposed to be en route to Japan.Irgo was reunited with his family Thursday. United issued an apology after the discovery of the switched dogs.Monday, a French bulldog died on a Houston-to-New York flight after a United flight attendant told its owners to put the dog, in its carrier, in an overhead bin. United spokesman Jonathan Guerin said the passenger told the flight attendant there was a dog in the carrier, but the attendant "did not hear or understand her, and did not knowingly place the dog in the overhead bin."The incident drew outrage online and prompted a US senator to demand an explanation from United."As we stated, we take full responsibility and are deeply sorry for this tragic accident. We remain in contact with the family to express our condolences and offer support," Guerin said. About 26,000 Ford vehicles are being recalled with three different safety concerns announced this week.The first one is for certain 2016-2020 Lincoln MKX and Nautilus vehicles with 16-way power seats. The issue is with the wiring of the seat harness and how close they are to the seat cushion pan. If certain wires are damaged from coming into contact with the seat cushion frame, Ford says the airbag system may not perform as intended.People with impacted models can go to a dealer to have them install flocking tape and check the wires.The second recall is for the newest model of F-650 and F-750 trucks. The vehicles are missing certain thermal protection components intended to reduce the interior cabin floor and seat attachment temperatures in hot conditions.The third recall affects less than 100 of the 2020 Ford Escape and Transit vehicles. The airbag may not inflate properly. People are encouraged to take their vehicle to a Ford dealer to have the airbag checked.Ford is not aware of any injuries from any of these safety concerns. 1052

About 20,000 residents are under mandatory evacuation orders as a Southern California fire -- which authorities say was set intentionally -- spread this week.The Holy Fire started Monday in the Cleveland National Forest and has so far destroyed 12 structures, according to fire authorities.A man has been arrested in connection with the fire that is wreaking havoc near the border between Orange and Riverside counties, which are among the most populous counties in California.The Holy Fire has burned 6,200 acres and is 5% contained.Although it's not the largest fire burning in the state, there are growing concerns about how it could affect residential communities -- including Lake Elsinore. Almost a quarter million YETI travel mugs are being recalled over concerns about possible burns from hot liquids when the lid ejects.The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the magnet slider on the YETI Rambler 20 oz travel mug with “stronghold lid” can eject when sealed, and hot liquid inside the mug can spill out. The mug was sold from October 1 through 9 and affected 15,000 units. The recall applies to mugs with the date code 34204010 and was sold in a variety of colors. The recalled mugs were not sold on Amazon, REI, Academy, ACE, Dick’s Sporting Goods, or other retailers. They were mostly sold on YETI’s website. On YETI’s website, there is information about how to return to affected mugs for a full refund.YETI reports they have received at least a couple reports of the lids ejecting, and they say no one has been injured at this time.NOTE: This article originally stated that 241,000 YETI mugs were recalled.
