SAN DIEGO COUNTY (KGTV)— Many residents in San Diego County woke up to a big mess after yesterday’s storms brought in the steady rain. Many people witnessed an early morning recovery mission in San Diego Bay Sunday. A 30-foot boat was found partially underwater at La Playa Cove near Shelter Island. San Diego Harbor Police believed no one was inside. But, a friend of the boat owner thought last night’s weather and rough waters might be the reasons it sank.“They may have come in last night during the storm and coming in, the boat sank on them,” friend of the boat owner, Jeff Gough said. Meanwhile, in North County, a large pine tree toppled down onto Eldorado Drive in Escondido.“There was room for like one car width for people to go around it,” homeowner Richard Bensinger said. Bensinger remembered when he planted what was a tiny Christmas tree in his front lawn 15 years ago. It has since grown to be more than 30 feet tall. Bensinger was shocked it came down this morning. He knows now, not to underestimate the power of mother nature.“It was angled a bit, but the roots were spread all over the place. So I'm surprised it actually fell over, but it’s just been so wet and muddy out there, and as you can see, all that mud pulled the whole thing over,” Bensinger said. He now has to live with a pile of pine chunks on his front lawn until county crews come to pick them up. Still, he is relieved no one was hurt.“I’m glad it didn’t fall onto somebody as they were falling down the street,” Bensinger said. The next storm is headed to San Diego County on Wednesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- On most days at the North Side Shack in Point Loma, you'll find Pamela Olivera. She opened the now-thriving shop four years ago."If you're really motivated, if you really enjoy something, wanna do something, you only live once," said Olivera of the gamble that paid off.While she always had a passion for cooking, it wasn't always how she made a living. Olivera was once a paralegal. She thought was a good job for a single mother of three, but it wasn't a job she loved. So, she decided to change that.  She went to the San Diego Workforce Partnership location in Chula Vista, where she found a program that would give her money to retrain for a new career. In her case, it was culinary school. "For me, they offered me a ,000 grant, the program was ,000. That's a third of the cost of the school," said Olivera.The partnership provides a long list of resources for job seekers depending on their needs. The service is free. It's a valuable tool Olivera says more people should utilize.Other resources available include career counseling, job searches, typing certificates and Microsoft Word classes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police say a man was stabbed by his ex-girlfriend in a home on 3500 block of Adams Avenue just before 2:45 p.m. Sunday.A witness said she saw the man hobbling after the ex-girlfriend as she drove off. The witness followed the car long enough to get the license plate number.The man was bleeding from the right thigh.Police say neighbors jumped in to help the man, before he was transported to the hospital. Police say he is in stable condition.The ex-girlfriend returned to the scene and was arrested. Police say another man was arrested, who was involved with the ex-girlfriend.Adams Avenue westbound at 36th Street is shut down, and may reopen around 6 p.m., according to police. 728

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--If you've ever seen a traditional Danza Azteca performance, you know it's much more than a show."We always explain to people that these are ceremonial prayers and that we're sharing them not to entertain people although that's part of it because people love seeing it but also to teach the history of the dancing and to teach there's something to learn from everybody," said Mario Aguilar, the Capitan General or leader of Danza Mexi'cayotl.The group is celebrating it's 40th anniversary this year, which makes it the longest running of it's kind in the country.Aguilar says the dancing is just a part of what they offer members."We use the name circle because we consider ourselves, everybody in the circle as family members, we have some people who've been dancing 40 years," he explained.The colorful and elaborate dances are really stories, telling of the ancient indigenous heritage that members are keeping alive.Aguilar says they're also trying to spread a message of unity."We're reminding people that we're all one people we dress differently we talk differently but we all come and go from the same place and that to me is the greatest gift of Azteca Dance." 1194
