SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — From California to Maine, breweries across the country are stepping up to help California fire victims.The effort started with the Sierra Nevada brewery. While their facility was spared by the Camp Fire, communities around it were devastated.Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman reached out to fellow brewers to join him in the disaster relief effort, making their ‘Resilience Butte County Proud IPA’ recipe available to those who want to help. The brewery is asking that 100 percent of profits go to fire relief efforts. So far over 1,200 breweries have pledged to make and sell the beer.“I’ve never seen anything on this scale,” said Jim Millea, brewmaster at OB Brewery. “That’s a lot of beer being made for a good cause, it’s pretty sweet!”Millea says he didn’t hesitate to join the effort.“Who wouldn’t want to be a part of a good cause?” said Millea. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Hundreds of thousands of San Diego County workers are facing the prospect of fewer hours, lower paychecks, and even job loss.The workers are in the retail, leisure, and hospitality fields, which in all employs more than 350,000 workers in the region. The squeeze comes as restrictions increase related to the coronavirus, including a 30-day travel ban from Europe, a county ban on events of 250 or more people, and cancellations of major conventions. John McKlosky was one of those attendees, lamenting the shell of the Fiber Optic conference he attends annually. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Higher than usual tide will crash along San Diego County's shores this weekend as king tides roll into the coast.King tides are expected to pound San Diego's coastline between Jan. 10 to 12 and again Feb. 8 and 9. The naturally occurring high tide happens when there is an alignment of the gravitational pull between the sun and moon, according to the California King Tides Project.While the outcome produces amazing imagery and scenes of ocean water splashing over shorelines, it can be hazardous at times. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the second time in as many weeks, several train cars derailed near the downtown San Diego area.The BNSF Railway Company says 19 cars derailed at about 9:40 p.m. Friday while traveling at slow speeds. The train cars were carrying automobiles.The backup continued into Saturday morning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Hoover High School Friday celebrated the topping off of one of its newest additions to campus.The campus set the final beam of its new 500-seat theater into place, with students and staff signing the steel beam before a crane lifted it into place. The event marked the latest completion in the school's massive renovation project, which has already seen the return of the school's once iconic tower. The tower, which was topped off in January 2019, could once be seen from El Cajon Blvd., before it was taken down in 1976 due to seismic safety standards.Once the renovations are completed, Hoover High will have not only its Spanish-style tower back but also a new theater with theater support and instructional space, and a three-story building accommodating counselors, support staff, and students.The new classroom building will feature 20 classrooms to replace outdated modular classrooms elsewhere on campus.The project will also see a reconfiguration of the main parking lot, courtyard improvements, and a student drop-off area. 1062
