Democrats will need to win both races in order to allow Vice President-elect Kamala Harris to cast the tiebreaking vote in a 50/50 Senate. The proposal would provide 0 in additional unemployment benefits for up to 18 weeks. The legislation also would replenish funds for the Paycheck Protection Program and for small businesses to help make payroll as a number of companies are being forced to close to help combat the spread of the coronavirus. The current proposal calls for 8 billion to go toward support for small businesses.There would also be 0 billion earmarked for state and local governments, which have seen a drop in tax revenue due to the pandemic. There is in additional billion allocated toward the transportation industry, most notably for airlines, which have seen an over 50% reduction in business since March.However for Americans hoping to see a second stimulus check, this bill comes short on that aspect.Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said that talks of direct payments to Americans are dead at the moment. Brad Bufanda, an actor best known for his roles in TV shows including "Veronica Mars" and "Co-Ed Confidential," has died after apparently taking his own life.Bufanda apparently jumped from a building in Los Angeles on Wednesday and died of "traumatic injuries," according to Variety.On Friday, TMZ reported that the 34-year-old actor left a suicide note that thanked some of the people in his life and mentioned his parents.Bufanda's manager told Variety she was "completely devastated for he was an extremely talented young actor and wonderful, caring human being." She said he'd been "reviving his career" and had just finished shooting two movies.He appeared in 23 movies and TV shows since 1995, according to IMDB. British officials have authorized a COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, greenlighting the world’s first shot against the virus that’s backed by rigorous science and taking a major step toward eventually ending the pandemic. The go-ahead Wednesday for the vaccine developed by American drugmaker Pfizer and Germany’s BioNTech comes as the virus surges again in the United States and Europe, putting pressure on hospitals and morgues in some places and forcing new rounds of restrictions that have devastated economies. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency recommended the vaccine could be used after it reviewed the results of clinical trials that showed the vaccine was 95% effective overall — and that it also offered significant protection for older people.“Help is on its way,″ British Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the BBC. “We now have a vaccine. We’re the first country in the world to have one formally clinically authorized but, between now and then, we’ve got to hold on, we’ve got to hold our resolve.”Hancock later added that the country expects to receive the first shipment of 800,000 doses “within days″ and will begin distributing shots soon afterward.According to The Associated Press, England will first distribute the vaccine to people over the age of 80, people in long-term care facilities and health care workers. BUFFALO, N.Y. — The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has criticized grocery store chain Wegmans and several other chains for allegedly selling coconut milk made from fruit harvested by abused monkeys.According to PETA, monkeys are "forced to climb trees to pick coconuts" for coconut milk made by the brand Chaokoh. The company says that Wegmans is one of the few grocery store chains still selling the product.In an open letter to Wegmans CEO Colleen Wegman, PETA claimed that an investigation by the organization found that coconut growers in the industry were harvesting fruit with monkeys that were "confined for life, sometimes with their teeth removed, always on chains, and often driven insane from being deprived of everything that's natural and important to them."PETA also added that it is delivering "humanely obtained: coconuts to Wegmans this week.In response, Wegmans said that PETA had sent letters to several other retailers regarding the coconut milk, and added that the store is "actively investigating the matter."In July, the Thailand-based maker of Chaokoh coconut milk, Theppadungporn Coconut Co.
