The two leaders' meeting took place on the sidelines of the ongoing general debate of the United Nations General Assembly, at which Xi delivered a speech on Monday morning.

While jointly meeting the press, Xi stressed that today's world has entered into an era of economic globalization where countries are interdependent upon each other.

The premier also urged greater supervision of financial institutions and activities, with the aim of preventing risks and promoting healthy growth of national economy.

"We look to President Xi's visit and our other upcoming engagements with China to send a clear signal about its commitment to reform through the BIT negotiations," he added.
