SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University students were outraged with the football home opener tailgate at SDCCU Stadium Saturday.This comes after an email was sent last October by the university declaring new rules for tailgates. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police say a man has died after an officer-involved shooting in the City Heights area on Thursday.SDPD officers responded to reports of a man with a gun in the 4200 block of Menlo Ave. at about 4 p.m., according to SDPD Lt. Matt Dobbs.Police say two women were driving in the area when they were confronted by a man with a handgun."The man manipulated the slide of the gun as if he were loading it and pointed the gun towards the women," according to a SDPD news release. The women drove away and then called 911.Officers arrived to find the man and demanded he drop the gun. 612

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several San Diego chefs will try and set the world record for most pieces of sushi made in 48 hours this month.Sushi Festival San Diego will see Chef Jeff Roberto and several others try to produce 100,000 pieces of sushi in 48 hours, from Oct. 26 to Oct. 28.Roberto, who owns Sushi On A Roll, says the feat has been in the works for a while now.RELATED: San Diego is among top 'foodie cities' in America, report says"This has been a long time coming. Sushi On A Roll will set the world record of sushi made in 48 hours," Robert wrote in an email. "I'm excited to have my friends in the industry to be a part of this and to make this happen."Tickets for the event range from 0 - 5, including intimate omakase experiences from featured chefs and VIP tickets including all-you-can-eat dining — because there will definitely be plenty to go around. A variety of local taiko groups and other performers will also provide live entertainment during the event.Profits from the event will benefit the Friends of Rollo nonprofit, which take youth fishing and educates them about the ocean ecosystem. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starbucks customers are noticing a difference since employees were notified Friday of a revised customer policy, acknowledging "any person who enters our spaces, including patios, cafes and restrooms, regardless of whether they make a purchase, is considered a customer."This comes a month after two men were arrested in a?Philadelphia store, sparking national outrage."They're trying to make sure they fix the problem and everything and keep everything straight because they're not trying to be racist, I think," Customer Maurice Howard said.Every customer who spoke with 10News Sunday said they were happy to hear about the revised policy, hoping what happened in Philadelphia will never recur.Customer Francisco Ruiz said the coffee shops provide a service for the community, a notion echoed by the company's vision to create a "third place between work and home."It's no secret students see Starbucks as a study sanctuary. Others, like Yvonne Pardo, conduct business at some of the chains out of convenience."I'm a hiring manager for a local business and I do my interviews at Starbucks," Pardo said.When she learned of the arrest in Philadelphia, she still came in to conduct interviews, but didn't buy anything to see what would happen."Obviously I was impressed at the fact that I wasn't asked to leave, and I was there for four hours one time... Knowing that they changed their policy, I'll probably be more likely to be a patron again," she said.The new policy, meant to be more inclusive, could be abused."I was at Starbucks yesterday and there was a loiterer and I thought about that and I was like, now they probably can't ask this person to leave, and he was sleeping," Pardo said the person was homeless."You got a lot of people who want to kick it and chill and stuff like that so it'll probably be overcrowded, a little bit bad for business," Howard said.The new policy does address disruptive behavior instructing employees to call 9-1-1 and follow procedures to bar a customer from the chain if necessary.The complete revised Starbucks policy is online. 2168

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sea World employees went on a rescue mission Saturday to free a Sea lion pup from a plastic ribbon wrapped around his neck on Boomer's Beach.The timing is poetic, on World Oceans Day. A day that "provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve our world’s shared ocean," according to WorldOceansDay.org.Sea World Animal Care Specialist Brooke Hubbard said they had been monitoring the pup and received another call Saturday. This time it sounded like the 2-3-year-old sea lion was in an area where they could safely remove the ribbon.A rescue that saved the mammal's life, "when there is lining around it's neck it can constrict it's airways and it's esophagus making it so they can't breathe or eat over time," Hubbard said.Video from her supervisor's perspective shows what it was like when the team snuck up on the sea lion, threw their net and cut the ribbon off with a pair of ordinary scissors.When they released the Sea lion, he scooted back to the ocean, "that's the best feeling in the world, especially since we didn't have to bring it back here and rehabilitate it," she said.Hubbard said this is is completely preventable, "please don't litter at the beach.
