From empty store shelves to people visiting their elderly family members through glass windows, we are living history. Now, librarians are looking to document it.“I think the pandemic affects all of us, but how people are experiencing that really varies so much from region to region, town to town, state to state," said Anna Neatrour, Digital Initiatives Librarian with the University of Utah. Neatrour’s colleague, Jeremy Myntti, Head of Digital Library Services, says this an unprecedented time for most of us, but some have lived through similar experiences.“If you think back to World War II or even during the 1918 flu pandemic, what people were going through is pretty similar to what we're going through now."Over the last two months, the University of Utah has collected mostly photographs but also letters and oral history videos, documenting how the coronavirus pandemic affected us all in 2020. Many of the early submissions included photos of empty grocery store shelves and people social distancing in each other's front yards."People try to visit their elderly family members and in adult care facilities and not being able to do that and having to visit them through windows," said Rachel Wittmann, Digital Curation Librarian.History students at the University of Utah are also helping the librarians document this time. More than 600 items have already been collected. "So, once we have items submitted to us, they’re processed, they’re put into an online digital collection where anyone in the world can access to them," said Myntti.University of Utah isn't the only one working to preserve this historical perspective. Boone County Public Library in Kentucky is also working with the public to collect items and they got the idea from another neighboring library. In Canada, mother Natalie Long created a 1836

For these high school seniors, the pool has become their life. So much so, the twin brothers, Cade and Zachary Griffith, both just committed to play water polo in college. The brothers say their decision on where to go to school was tough and overwhelming, but they both decided on Austin College, in Sherman, Texas. “So lucky; we got lucky on that, says the twin’s mom, Lisa Griffith. Their choice was unexpected, because they'd never heard of Austin College before hiring the college athlete recruiting company NCSA. NCSA recruiters knew of Austin College’s plan to start a new water polo program this fall and that they were in need of team members. Lisa Strasman, president and COO of NCSA, and her team help student-athletes navigate the recruitment process. “A lot of kids think the only schools that offer their sport are those they see on ESPN,” Strasman says. “Reality [is] there's so many college opportunities across the country.” NCSA and other companies like it take the student's GPA, sport and education interests and pour through thousands of schools to find the ones that may be a good fit. They then make videos introducing student-athletes to coaches. “People think that college coaches will just discover them. In most cases, that's not reality,” Strasman says. “It's very important that student athletes are proactive."The Griffith's paid ,000 for each of their sons, but NCSA helps families for free, if their parents qualify as low-income. Many of NCSA’s employees are former athletes or college coaches. Online reviews about athlete recruitment companies are mixed. Some families say they have successfully navigated the recruitment process themselves. "I think everybody's situation is different. For us, it was definitely an investment," says Lisa Griffith. Her sons are happy they had the help. “It was just a really easy process to do,” says Zachary Griffith. 1907

Food delivery service company DoorDash says they are investigating a security breach that affected 4.9 million users, workers and merchants. The company says they became aware of "unusual activity involving a third-party service provider" earlier this month. They launched an investigation and discovered that user data was accessed on May 4. The breach only affects users who joined on or before April 5, 2018. If you joined DoorDash after that day, your information is not affected, according to the company. The type of user data accessed could include: Profile information including names, email addresses, delivery addresses, order history, phone numbers, as well as hashed, salted passwords — a form of rendering the actual password indecipherable to third parties. For some consumers, the last four digits of consumer payment cards. However, full credit card information such as full payment card numbers or a CVV was not accessed. The information accessed is not sufficient to make fraudulent charges on your payment card. For some Dashers and merchants, the last four digits of their bank account number. However, full bank account information was not accessed. The information accessed is not sufficient to make fraudulent withdrawals from your bank account. For approximately 100,000 Dashers, their driver’s license numbers were also accessed. The company says they're reaching out directly to affected users with specifics on what information was accessed. "We do not believe that user passwords have been compromised, but out of an abundance of caution, we are encouraging all of those affected to reset their passwords to one that is unique to DoorDash," the company said. DoorDash says they took immediate steps to block further access and to enhance security across the platform. For more information click 1832
