DEL MAR, CA (KGTV) -- From the starting line to the finish line, opening day to the final race of the season, the Del Mar racetrack prides itself on injury-free races. And with the Summer 2020 season having just wrapped up, the track was ranked as the safest racetrack in the country for the third straight year."It didn't come easily," says Del Mar Thoroughbred Club President Joe Harper. "A few years ago we just woke up to the fact that these horse injuries were climbing, and we had to figure out what was going on."So four years ago, they decided to make some changes. All in the hopes of making the sport safer for the horses, and the jockeys. And it all started with dissecting the track."We found the best guy in the world, the best dirt guy there is, and it was Dennis Moore. He took the track completely apart and told us there were a few problems. We knew it would cost a lot of money, but I said spend all you want."Joe says they also stepped up the evaluations on every racehorse. And for a summer racing season, that means close to 2,000."We go back through our databases, and find what this horses have been doing, where they have been, and how they have been training."The track has also increased the number of veterinarians at the track."In the morning during workouts we've hired more vets to come in and watch the horses. We also have veterinarians go in and look at the horses in the stalls, and the receiving barns. There are vets everywhere."This past season, they had to euthanize one horse injured in a race, as well as two other horses injured while training. DEERFIELD, Ill. – Walgreens says it’s partnering with a primary care company to open full-service doctor's offices at hundreds of its drugstores.The pharmacy chain announced Wednesday that an expanded partnership with VillageMD will allow them to open 500 to 700 “Village Medical at Walgreens” primary care clinics in more than 30 markets in the next five years. They intend to build hundreds more after that.Most of the clinics will be approximately 3,300 square feet each, with some as large as 9,000 square feet. Walgreens says they will optimize existing space in stores, which will also still provide a range of retail products to customers.Walgreens says the clinics will integrate the pharmacist as a critical member of VillageMD’s multi-disciplinary team to deliver quality health care to patients. DEL MAR, Calif., (KGTV)-- After a nine-month hiatus, the controversial Crossroads of the West Gun Show is back at the Del Mar Fairgrounds this weekend. Dozens of people returned to Jimmy Durante Road with their picket signs Saturday morning to protest the gun show. Many did not think they would be there again."We thought we already had this issue decided," Rose Ann Sharp said. The founder of the website "neveragainca.org" organized the protest after the gun show temporarily was reinstated. Last September, protesters convinced the Del Mar Fairgrounds Board of Directors to suspend the gun show, but a judge's ruling this past June allowed the event to return."I feel really good that the court found it in our favor," California Rifle and Pistol Association Executive Director, Rick Travis said. "What that does is it protects San Diegans' and Californians' first amendment rights."In response, State Legislators passed AB893. The bill bans the sale of guns and ammunition, specifically at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, starting in 2021. 10News met several teenagers who joined the protest. 16-year-old Daphne Porras said she came to the rally because she was scared. At Canyon Crest Academy in Carmel Valley, she said lockdown drills are the new norm. "Unfortunately, it is a realistic possibility," Porras said. "I feel like our generation has almost gotten used to it."Her friend Robbie Glatts echoed her sentiments. "I don't like going to school scared anymore," Glatts said. "I don't like making plans on where I'm going to go. I have a plan for every single class. Mary Lynn Grover said the owner asked them to send money via the Zelle app.They hadn’t used it before but thought they’d give it a try, then had second thoughts.“We did everything,” she said. “Wells Fargo was wonderful getting things back, saying ‘I think this guy chickened out. He didn’t even have a Zelle account.’ ”The Grovers continued their search, trying to be more cautious the second time around.They found three French bulldogs via online advertisements and said the seller poured on the charm.“He said, ‘Now you are part of my family. These were my mother’s puppies.’ He even sent us a picture of the kennel he was buying for us and said, ‘I will make dinner.’ I mean he knew me as a soft spot.
