SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 17-year-old has been arrested for social media threats to a Carmel Valley high school.San Diego Police said the juvenile was taken into custody Monday at school during an investigation into threatening comments issued online against Canyon Crest Academy, which is part of the San Dieguito Union High School District.The teenager has been placed in Juvenile Hall for criminal threats, SDPD said.RELATED: Timeline shows threats made against San Diego County schoolsIn a letter to parents Monday, Principal Brett Killeen said no "credible nor specific threat was made."The students were concerned about what another student has been posting on social media.  Though no credible nor specific threat was made toward any specific student nor our school, these students did the right thing in reporting their concerns to us.  The San Diego Police Department is investigating this issue, and the student who posted the content is not on campus.We are proud that CCA is a safe school with an inclusive and caring culture.  We do encourage families to talk to teens about what they may be posting online, because threatening content will be taken seriously, even if posted in jest, and it ultimately disrupts the lives of those who are concerned about the content, as well as the person who used poor judgment in posting the content.  1383

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A California woman is accusing a San Diego CEO of gaining her trust and then decimating her entire life's savings. The woman, Marieme Bouguerba, is being represented by San Diego attorney Charles Field, a partner with Sanford Heisler Sharp, LLP "She's devastated. You have a single mother who lives with her parents, and she's trying to make things go and to have her entire life savings decimated like this is a major setback for her - both financially and emotionally," said Field.The lawsuit claims Mark Bernier trolls dating websites for vulnerable, high net worth women as part of his investment scams. It goes on to say he advertises himself as a licensed investment professional, attempts to build trust and confidence, and then aggressively seeks to separate the women from their money through purported investments.Bernier is listed as CEO for San Diego-based venture capital firm, VentureMoney Management Co. Field says his client met Bernier on the dating website MillionaireMatch.com, a site designed to help successful people find love. Field says Bernier has exchanged over 29,000 messages with over 3,000 women through the Millionaire Match website, to sell them worthless securities. "Well I think that's the mark of a good salesman, is that a good salesman can make a good pitch, can make a convincing pitch, and when it's backed by a legitimate looking website that has very prominent people on there, all that combined led her to believe that this was reputable," said Field.Field says Bernier scammed his client out of 0,000. While they received 0,000 back during mediation, Field says they are not being told where the rest of the money is."It seems reputable, when you look at the website it seems like he's [Bernier] trying to do good things, that's what it appears. But like I said, we asked where the money is, we asked what it was invested in, where it went, and we have not gotten any answers," said Field. Their lawsuit accuses Bernier of not even having a license to sell securities or give investment advice in California. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A cheating scandal on a California State Board of Pharmacy exam has left 1,400 recent graduates unlicensed and unable to work, forcing some to deny job offers as their student loans become due.The board announced this week it invalidated all test scores on the California Practice Standards and Jurisprudence Examination for Pharmacists (CPJE) administered since July after it found evidence of "wide-scale subversion" of the exam.Board investigators determined more than 100 test questions were shared online. The CPJE is a critical step in the licensure process for new pharmacists."The board sincerely regrets that the actions of some are negatively impacting the lives of many," the board wrote in a statement posted Wednesday. "California consumers must have confidence that individuals passing a licensing exam have the requisite knowledge and skills to practice safely and competently."Some graduates working as interns in pharmacies while waiting for their license said they had lost their jobs over the licensing delay. Others said they had to turn down job offers."Our loans are increasing, we are all financially burdened as we can't find jobs until we take this exam," one test-taker wrote in an email to 10News. "People are very frustrated in the lack of communication from the board. We are being punished over other people's mistakes. We don't deserve this."The board is offering pharmacist applicants a chance to retake the test on November 16 and 17, and said it would "work diligently to expedite the results." That means applicants likely wouldn't be licensed and ready to work until December, leaving some who expected to begin working by late August in a financially stressful situation."Most people study for this exam for one to two months," said another test-taker. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A former professional skateboarder convicted of raping and murdering a woman in Carlsbad nearly three decades ago is suitable for parole, a hearing panel at Donovan Correctional Facility determined Tuesday.The Board of Parole Hearings panel determined Mark “Gator” Rogowski is not an unreasonable risk to the community, setting him up for release despite objections from the victim’s father and the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office over a crime that stunned the region in the 1990s.“We think the decision did not take into account the grave public safety concerns posed by this inmate. We think he still poses a threat, especially to women,” said Supervising Deputy District Attorney Richard Sachs. “When someone does something as horrible as this, it shocks the conscience that they would be granted parole,” he added.A world champion skateboarder in the 1980s, Rogowski was convicted of beating Jessica Bergsten with a metal rod into semi-consciousness, raping her, wrapping her in a surfboard bag, and strangling her to death in a fit of rage that spanned three or more hours. Rogowski later buried her body in the desert.Bergsten was a friend of Rogowski's ex-girlfriend. He said he took out his rage from the break-up on Bergsten, a college student and part-time model, in a case of "misplaced revenge."“The pain never goes away,” the victim’s father Stephen Bergsten told the panel. “This inmate received a life sentence, but he imposed a death sentence upon Jessica and our family.”Commissioner Brian Roberts said the panel took several factors into consideration, including Rogowski’s remorse for the crime, lack of significant criminal history, good behavior in custody, and rehabilitation programs he has completed during his 27 years in prison.Roberts said the panel also put significant weight on a new law that gives added leniency to “youthful offenders” who commit crimes before the age of 26. The law, which took effect in 2018, is based on studies showing the impulse control architecture in the brain is not fully developed in most people until about age 25.“I’m disgusted with what I did. I think about it every day,” Rogowski told the board. “I took everything from that poor family. They have every right to be angry with me. I want to make it go away but I can’t.”The Board of Parole Hearings has 120 days to finalize the decision. After that, the case will go before the governor for review.“Unfortunately, justice wasn’t served today, but the governor will have a chance to look at this case and we hope he will,” Deputy DA Sachs said.Commissioner Roberts ordered Rogowski to live temporarily in transitional housing upon release. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A European carrier is hoping to transform the way Southern California travels between major cities.FlixBus will start offering service to 10 Southern California cities, including in San Diego, beginning May 31. The service, which has operated within Europe since 2013, is hoping to carve out a presence with discounted ticket prices and some high-tech additions.For a limited time, travelers can snag fares from Los Angeles to Las Vegas for as low as on select dates throughout June, according to the service's website.
