Scooter company Lime is recalling one of its models from every city after realizing it could break apart while in use. The company says the model occasionally breaks "when subject to repeated abuse."The scooters were manufactured by a Chinese company called Okai, according to a Washington Post interview with Lime representatives. The Washington Post said it could not get in touch with Okai for comment.Lime plans to decommission any Okai scooters in its fleets.Those who experience the breaking scooter are typically leaving them where they break, and it has been difficult for the company to tally how many have broken, the Washington Post reports.This recall follows one issued a couple months ago stating some Lime scooters could catch fire. That recall of 2,000 scooters said some have batteries that smoldered and sometimes caught fire.The recall had a small impact in Lime's west coast markets. 911

Sen. Chuck Schumer plans to propose legislation decriminalizing marijuana, Vice News reported Thursday."I'll be introducing legislation to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level from one end of the country to the other," the New York Democrat told Vice News. "The legislation is long overdue."Schumer, the Senate minority leader, told Vice that he had "seen too many people's lives ruined because they had small amounts of marijuana and served time in jail much too long."He added that it was "the right thing to do."According to Vice News, the legislation will be introduced in the next week, and it will include taking marijuana off the Drug Enforcement Administration's controlled substance list.Schumer also told Vice News the legislation will "maintain federal authority to regulate marijuana advertising in the same way it does alcohol and tobacco." 874

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- California Gov. Gavin Newsom met with San Diego leaders in San Ysidro Thursday morning to discuss border-related topics and what is being done to help migrants. Newsom hosted a round table discussion at El Rincon Restaurant in San Ysidro around 10 am."I don't have any hope... I don't have any faith in the people who are making the decisions," Luz Camacho Espinoza said. The entire table agreeing they're tired of the militarization at the border and spreading fear."Walking home from school I've now seen tanks, trucks, and carriers pass through my childhood streets," SDSU student Hector Castro said.One woman who grew up in San Ysidro chimed in, "there is no crisis here." Castro said the focus needs to shift to real crises like affordable housing and environmental health. "You know there's all this traffic, all these cars all these trucks all this gas, all this air pollution that's being placed on our town," he said.The leaders said it was important to educate the public that San Ysidro is a vibrant town, full of families, not a dangerous area full of criminals. He added the town is intertwined in many ways with Tijuana, saying not only are there families on both sides, and the economies rely upon the border remaining open.Owner of the family business El Rincon Restaurant, Edgar Alaniz, called upon Newsom for action, "I want to make it clear that if he wants to understand the community more he needs to visit the community more."Though the meeting was hosted in San Ysidro, a news release made no mention of whether or not Newsom would visit the border. SEATTLE (AP) — One of two people hit by a man who drove his car onto a closed Seattle freeway and into a crowd protesting police brutality has died. A hospital spokeswoman said 24-year-old Summer Taylor of Seattle died Saturday evening at Harborview Medical Center. Officials say Taylor and 32-year-old Diaz Love of Portland, Oregon, were hit by the car that barreled through a panicked crowd of protesters on Interstate 5 early Saturday morning. SCOTTSDALE, Arizona — It's not paper or plastic that's taking over a Scottsdale, Arizona recycling center — it's trash. Every day at Republic Services workers line a conveyer belt scouring for items that don't belong. But the belts are moving slower than they used to. That's because so much trash has been moving through, workers need more time to pick it out. "A cushion like this, not recyclable," Richard Coupland with Republic Services said. "Baby seats, not recyclable." But it's not just time-consuming. Coupland said when you put things that don't belong into a recycle bin, it can contaminate the other items that do belong. In return, that produces more trash. "Focus on your fundamental material, but most importantly that it's empty, clean and dry," he said. Fundamental material includes paper, plastic, aluminum and cardboard. However, if you're recycling a ketchup bottle, it must be completely empty and rinsed out. All the trash coming through the center is also costing more money. Coupland said China was at one time one of the largest buyers of recyclable material. However, the center has stopped shipping items there. "They've lowered their acceptable criteria from 3 percent to .5 percent," Coupland said. "That's a level that few folks are able to achieve right now without making significant changes to their operation." That's forcing the company to sell all it's paper, plastic, and aluminum to different markets, at a cost. "Those markets are not able to pay the same value for the material," Coupland said.In return, that can cost you more when it comes to pick up fees. However, you can help by being conscious about what you put in your bin. "Many don't realize that the bottom of a pizza box which is contaminated with grease of a pizza, that's trash," Coupland said. "No one is interested in buying that. So the proper thing to do is rip the box, give me the top and throw away the bottom."  2052
