SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - Surveillance video obtained by ABC 10News shows a gas thief in action in Santee.Just before 3 a.m. last Wednesday, at a business park off North Woodside Avenue, the video revealed a masked man up to no good."Just sad seeing someone doing that," said Kevin Wilson.The owner of the vans shown in the video is Kevin Wilson, co-owner of carpet cleaning and repair company, Southwestern Carpet Works. Hours later, he arrived and smelled the aftermath."Pulled up to work and I could immediately smell gas," said Wilson.When he looked at the gas gauge of his box van, his heart sank."Instantly could tell there was less than a quarter tank, and there was a full tank the day before," said Wilson.Here's why. In the video, a man is seen carrying a water jug and some tubing. The man shoves the tube into the gas tank, before puts the tube to his mouth and siphoning the gas.He would get away with about 20 gallons of fuel."Angry and disappointed. He is stealing from a small, family business. If you steal from us, you’re stealing from our kids and our employees' kids," said Wilson.Like most small businesses, his was impacted by COVID-19"For the first month-and-a-half to two months, it was really slow," said Wilson.Fast forward to the end of summer. Wilson believes the gas thief in the video is the same one that hit his business two others times in the past few months."In times past, a little more cautious. He had his back to camera, but dressed in similar clothes and shoes," said Wilson.Wilson says other businesses in the area have also been targeted in the same time period. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV)— A Santee family is praying for recovery and justice, as their mother remains on life-support. She was the victim of a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night. 10News spoke to Richard Johnson. His mother Julie Johnson and sister in law, Jayme Morton-Johnson were the victims of the hit-and-run.According to Richard Johnson, Wednesday at around 8 pm, they heard a commotion outside their home. Johnson said Julie ran outside and saw a neighbor boy getting beaten by three teenage boys.  Julie's other son, Robert, who is also Jayme's husband, says he was making dinner when his mother called him outside because of the altercation.  Robert stepped in to help break up the fight. They, and a neighbor, were able to put an end to it, but the teens ran into the car. “(Julie) always had a heart out for people are hurt or hears somebody in need, she acts right away, and that’s what she did," Richard Johnson said of his mother. As the suspects made their get-away, they sped onto the curb, hit the women, and flung them onto the street. “Jayme rolled off the side of the car with little injury," Johnson said. "And my mom flew off the car, and the impact was deadly. “Jayme was released from the hospital Thursday."The only thing I recall is seeing that drivers eyes and him hitting us and that’s when we grabbed each other, and by no means do I see it being an accident," she said.Jayme is expected to make a full recovery. Julie Johnson was not so lucky. The impact sent her flying 40 feet. Her brain is now non-responsive. An oxygen machine is the only thing keeping her alive. San Diego County Sheriffs Department said within two hours, they found the get-away car at Sonrise Community Church just two miles south of the crash. The owner of the vehicle then turned in one of the passengers, a 16-year-old boy, who was booked into juvenile hall for Felony hit-and-run. The two other teens have not been arrested. "I just want them to turn themselves in and give justice to my mother in law," Jayme said.“An irresponsible decision can end somebody’s life," Johnson said. While Johnson and his family wait for an arrest, they also pray. They said that is the only thing that may save their matriarch."The only thing they can do is hope from God that she will come back," Johnson said. "I’ve been praying that he’ll give her a chance. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — An attorney for a U.S. college student and her boyfriend who have been sentenced to four months in prison in the Cayman Islands for violating strict COVID-19 measures says he plans to appeal the recent ruling.Their attorney Jonathon Hughes says Skylar Mack, 18, of Georgia, and Vanjae Ramgeet, 24, of the Cayman Islands, have been in prison since Tuesday.He says he will argue for a less severe sentence next week and says the two have never been in trouble with the police.Mack is accused of breaking a mandatory two-week quarantine.Hughes told the Associated Press that on Nov. 27, Mack arrived in the Cayman Islands.But instead of undergoing a mandatory two-week quarantine, she broke quarantine by leaving with her boyfriend to attend a water sports event on Nov. 29, the AP reported.According to the AP, a judge ruled that Mack and Ramgeet pay a ,400 fine and provide 40 hours of community service. Ramgeet was also ordered to a two-month curfew, but prosecutors appealed, saying the punishment was lenient.On Dec. 15, a higher court ruled in favor of the prosecutors, and the couple was immediately imprisoned, the AP reported.Mack's grandmother told the AP that she emailed President Donald Trump and received a response saying the White House would look into it. 1309

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV)— The border shutdown at the San Ysidro Port of Entry Sunday created a ripple effect for transportation and nearby businesses.Many people were stranded at the port crossing for five hours before Homeland Security reopened the lanes in the evening. Christmas shopping at the Las Americas Outlet Mall came to an abrupt stop for Maria Martinez. "The mall was closed. They're very dangerous for us and the store,” Martinez said.RELATED: MAP: Migrant caravan forces closure of San Ysidro Port of Entry, San Diego interstatesThe Mexico City resident is on vacation to San Diego. She was shopping when she was told to leave the mall suddenly. Minutes prior, she claimed she saw a swath of caravan migrants rush the back of the mall, which the CBP denies."I saw the Salvadorenos people trying to cross the border,” Martinez said. “It was like watching a movie. I couldn’t believe it. I saw everything.”Customs and Border Protection closed off the San Ysidro Port of Entry late Sunday morning. Then the California Highway Patrol blocked off both the 805 and 5 Freeways south of the 905 interchanges. American federal agents in full tactical gear lined up along the border, at times using tear gas and rubber bullets to deter migrants.  "Over there, there was smoke and the noise of the gun,” Martinez said. At this point, there are no reports of any of the migrants successfully crossing the border. Martinez said she saw federal agents turn them around. The bus depot next to the mall was also closed, leaving shoppers like Martinez stuck and not knowing when they could get home. "I don't know. I think it's going to close the border. When everything is in peace, they are going to open. What time? I don't know,” Martinez said. By 5:15 pm, all operations at the San Ysidro Port of Entry resumed.  1883
