SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego man was sentenced Friday to more than 11 years in federal custody for distributing child pornography.Prosecutors say Christopher Duane Wade, 41, admitted last year to sending child porn to others and engaging in a sexually explicit conversation with an undercover agent posing as a teenage girl.According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Wade started talking with an undercover Homeland Security Investigations agent in April 2019, thinking she was a 13-year-old girl. They arranged to meet following "more than a week of sexually explicit chats," at which point Wade was arrested.Agents seized his cell phone, which contained pornography depicting "the abuse of very young children," as well as discussions with other people in which he encouraged them "to sexually abuse minors to whom they had access, and to document such abuse for purposes of distributing it to others."Following his 135-month federal prison term, Wade will be on supervised release for 10 years, during which he will be prohibited from having contact with minors, among other conditions, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office."One of our most important roles as prosecutors is to protect our nation's vulnerable children," said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. People are saying that democracy also applies to technology that affects your life, not just to budgets or to who you elect."Seth Hall, of TechLead San Diego, said the council's actions will do more to protect the public from the harm of mass surveillance."With the passage of these ordinances, our leaders and our citizens are in unison demanding that the future of mass surveillance be very different from the past," Hall said.The surveillance ordinance will require transparency, accountability and oversight for all surveillance technology proposals and ensures the public can learn about the civil rights and civil liberties impact of surveillance technology before it is acquired by the city.If acquired, the use of surveillance technology must be re-examined each year to ensure any benefits outweigh the potential civil liberties and civil rights costs.The Privacy Advisory Board will provide residents with a public process to evaluate how the city monitors its residents. The creation of such a process is intended to allow the city to respond appropriately to concerns about civil liberties and privacy during a time of rapidly evolving technology.Montgomery Steppe said these ordinances will add the oversight required to build and maintain public trust.San Diego Police Department Chief David Nisleit raised concerns about the way the ordinances were written. He said while he supported oversight, the laws were "drafted with little to no input from law enforcement, victim advocacy groups" and other parties.Nisleit urged a more cautious, measured approach to the ordinances.Tuesday was the first reading. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman died Monday after being injured Sunday when she was hit by a car in Rancho Penasquitos, police said.The San Diego County Medical Examiner says Nang Arm, 37, died after she was taken off life support Monday. Medics responded to a call at 7:07 a.m. Sunday on Black Mountain Road and Carmel Mountain Road, where they found an unconscious woman with face injuries, San Diego police Sgt. Robert Hawkins said.A gold-colored 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by 20-year-old Uvelyn Nunez- Jaramillo and carrying two passengers, was heading south on the 13700 block of Black Mountain Road when the car veered to the right, SDPD Sgt. Tim Underwood said.The car went onto a sidewalk, damaged a fence, then struck the Nang. She was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, Hawlins said.The car continued a short distance down the street, where it also hit a water line before it came to a stop. Nunez-Jaramillo exited the Nissan and walked away.Several passersby stopped at the scene to render aid to the woman and emergency personnel, Underwood said.Detectives determined that Nunez-Jaramillo caused the crash. She was contacted and returned to the scene, where police determined she allegedly was driving under the influence.She was arrested and booked in the Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility for felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run.Detectives also interviewed Nunez-Jaramillo's two passengers, who were released, Underwood said. 1468

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A pick-up truck drove through a highway center divider today near Alpine, overturned and caught fire, authorities said.The crash happened at 7:26 a.m. when a Ford truck lost its brakes going eastbound on Interstate 8, overturned on westbound I-8, landed on the right shoulder and became fully engulfed, the California Highway Patrol said.The wreck started a minor brush fire. All westbound lanes of I-8 were shut down from West Willows Road to East Willows Road until 8:23 a.m., where one westbound lane was reopened, the CHP said.It was not immediately known how many people were in the truck or whether there were any injuries. 655

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Wednesday for help in tracking down a motorist involved in a fatal hit-and-run on a Clairemont- area street last month.The unidentified driver's black four-door sedan struck and killed 44- year-old Shane Moore as he was crossing the street in the 5500 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard shortly before 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22, according to San Diego police and the county Medical Examiner's Office.The motorist continued driving and fled the area to the east. An SUV then ran over the mortally injured pedestrian.Moore, who apparently was homeless, died at the scene, despite efforts by witnesses to render first-aid.Based on broken-off car parts found at the site of the traffic fatality, investigators believe the vehicle that struck Moore was a 2016 or 2017 Honda Accord, police said.Anyone who might be able to help identify the hit-and-run driver is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org.
