SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego lawmakers responded Friday to President Donald Trump’s comments about border wall construction and funding as the government shutdown stretched into day 13. Trump declared he could keep parts of the government closed for "months or even years" as he and Democratic leaders failed in a second closed-door meeting to resolve his demand for billions of dollars for a border wall with Mexico. “We did a lot of wall in San Diego,” Trump said at a White House news conference. “They wanted it very badly.” Trump cited concerns about the U.S.-Mexico border, including entry by terrorists, drug smuggling, and human trafficking. San Diego County’s congressional representatives emailed comments to 10News regarding the president’s statements. “San Diegans view our proximity to Mexico as an opportunity, not a threat, and we recently celebrated building a bridge between our two countries – not a wall – a bridge with adequate customs staffing so people can travel back and forth easily, and legally,” wrote Rep. Scott Peters. “San Diegans want smart, innovative border security – not the wasteful wall that President Trump wants to build as a monument to himself.” Congressman Duncan Hunter, San Diego County’s lone Republican representative, issued a statement through his public information officer. “Congressman Hunter believes President Trump needs to stand strong on the issue of border security and his description of it as a ‘national emergency’ means he has a firm grasp of its importance. A border barrier is absolutely necessary, some of which is already in existence which many in Congress initially supported. What the President is asking for in terms of funding is not unreasonable and holding Congress accountable is exactly what he was elected to do.” 10News is awaiting responses from Rep. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police arrested a man who tried to rob a downtown bank Saturday.Police said a 34-year-year old white man entered the Chase Bank on West Broadway and handed a note to a teller saying that he was robbing the bank shortly before 3 p.m. The teller was able to keep the suspect inside the bank until San Diego Police arrived on the scene. Police took the empty-handed suspect into custody without incident as he was walking out of the bank. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.  585

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating Monday the discovery of a woman's body in a car parked in the Crown Point neighborhood of Pacific Beach.The decomposed remains were found in a black Acura SUV in the 3700 block of Yosemite Street, a residential area three blocks west of Crown Point Park.Neighbors had called to report the vehicle due to a foul odor.The window on the passenger side of the vehicle was broken by police, according to our 10News crew.Officers said the death did not appear to be suspicious, however they did not release details about the circumstances. 595

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting this week in Mountain View.Police said 39-year-old Jose Alfredo Castro-Gutierrez was shot and killed after officers responded to the 300 block of South Pardee Street just before 5 a.m. on Monday over reports of a violent disturbance involving a weapon.According to SDPD, Castro-Gutierrez was staying at a home as a guest when the residents were woken up by him. He had reportedly been acting paranoid and ripped a metal curtain rod from a window and began breaking windows and other objects in the home.RELATED: San Diego Police shoot, kill vandalism suspect in Mountain ViewWhen police arrived, they saw Castro-Gutierrez in the front window and could hear him breaking objects and yelling inside.SDPD says officers gave directions in English and Spanish to try and communicate with Castro-Gutierrez but got no response. Eventually, Castro-Gutierrez crawled out of a broken window and made his way to the front of the property where officers were.Police said Castro-Gutierrez began to run at full speed toward them with the metal pole, prompting three officers to fire their weapons at him: One officer fired a bean bag round, another officer fired a Taser, and a third officer fired several rounds from his service pistol, SDPD says.Castro-Gutierrez was hit by at least one round and fell to the ground. Officers started first aid at the scene, but Castro-Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the hospital.The officer who fired his service pistol was identified as Isai Castillo, a two-year veteran of SDPD assigned to Southeastern Division.SDPD's homicide unit is currently investigating the shooting, after which the San Diego County District Attorney's Office will review the case to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are searching for a woman they have identified as a person of interest in a recent homicide case in the Talmadge area.Police believe 25-year-old Sheila Camarena may be linked to a deadly shooting that occurred on Sept. 18, in the 4400 block of Euclid Avenue.According to police, in the early morning hours of Sept. 18, officers responded to a reported shooting in which a 33-year-old Black man was injured.The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified by police as Mychael Farve.A witness said the suspected shooter may have fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, but police did not verify the witness’ statement.Camarena is Hispanic, 5 feet 5 inches tall, and weighs 170 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes, but police noted Camarena is known to dye her hair blonde and/or red.According to police, Camarena is considered armed and dangerous.Anyone with information on her whereabouts or the Sept. 18 case is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to ,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case. 1153
