(AP) — The U.S. government says California must change how it issues identification cards that comply with stricter federal requirements.The so-called Real ID cards will be needed to board airplanes or enter federal buildings by October 2020 under security enhancements following 9/11. California already has issued 2.3 million cards.Department of Motor Vehicles spokesman Marty Greenstein said Friday that those IDs will remain valid and changes will apply going forward.The DMV had required one document proving residency and counted on delivery by the post office as secondary proof of someone's address.Emails show the Department of Homeland Security approved that process last year. RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Authorities in California believe they’ve solved a 25-year-old cold case rape.The Riverside Police Department announced Friday that officers had apprehended 49-year-old Ralph Leslie Kroll in connection with the sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman in October 1995.Police say the victim was walking when she was attacked by a stranger, forced into a nearby apartment complex and assaulted.Investigative leads were exhausted and it remained a cold case until police say DNA evidence was able to identify Kroll as a suspect.After obtaining an arrest warrant for Kroll, police teamed up with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate and arrest him at his Eastvale home on Thursday. Kroll was then booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of rape by force, kidnapping, and the use of a deadly weapon by a sex offender. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A highly decorated U.S. Forest Service police dog suffered nine stab wounds during a marijuana raid in Northern California. But he survived after he was airlifted to a veterinary clinic. What's more, it's the second time the dog, named Ice, recovered after being seriously injured. The agency said Friday that Ice was wounded late last month in the Klamath National Forest south of the Oregon border. He kept hold of the suspect even after he was stabbed. A helicopter flew Ice to a veterinary clinic in Medford, Oregon. The agency says Ice had multiple stab wounds that were more severe during a similar raid in 2016. 652

The load has been there for almost two months, and it's making the whole place smell like a rotting animal carcass.To add insult to injury, it isn't even their poop. For the last year, waste management facilities in New York and one in New Jersey have been shipping tons of biowaste -- literally, tons -- to Big Sky Environmental, a private landfill in Adamsville, Alabama. But in January, the neighboring town of West Jefferson filed an injunction against Big Sky to keep the sludge from being stored in a nearby rail yard.It was successful -- but as a result, the poo already in transit got moved to Parrish, where there are no zoning laws to prevent the waste from being stored. 922
