Britain's big Brexit decision was delayed on Monday, as Prime Minister Theresa May pulled the plug on Tuesday's parliamentary vote on her deal for the country to leave the European Union.The decision was taken in the face of predictions she would suffer a disastrous defeat that could threaten to end her premiership and topple the government.May told the UK House of Commons that she had listened "very carefully to what has been said in this chamber and out of it," which was met by laughter and jeering by members of parliament."It is clear that while there is broad support for many of the key aspects of the deal, on one issue -- the Northern Ireland backstop, there remains widespread and deep concern," May said in the statement.The embattled British leader said that if the vote were to go ahead Tuesday as planned, "it would be rejected by a significant margin.""We will therefore defer the vote scheduled for tomorrow and not proceed to divide the house at this time," May added.The Prime Minister said she had hoped changes secured to the backstop to avoid being trapped in it indefinitely would be enough for MPs but said she will now travel to meet representatives of other EU states to seek further assurances. BRUSSELS (AP) — European lawmakers say that plant-based products that do not contain meat can continue to be labeled “sausages” or “burgers.” The EU parliament on Friday rejected proposals backed by meat industry lobbyists that could have led to a ban on the terms. The decision means veggie burgers, soy steaks and vegan sausages can continue to be sold as such in restaurants and shops. Europe’s largest farmers' association wanted to ban the terms, arguing that labelling vegetarian substitutes with words that bring meat to mind was misleading consumers. The Office of Inspector General released a report showing FEMA gave 2.3 million hurricane and wildfire victims’ private information like bank account numbers, social security numbers, and home addresses to a contractor.Peter Andrew lost his home in the Lilac Fire. He’s since rebuilt, but learning the news about FEMA is concerning to him.“It’s always a concern when information is compromised, but in this case, the contractors went above and beyond, and I’d trust them with that information if it was an accident," said Andrew.Pat Damon also lost her home in the Lilac Fire. FEMA helped her rebuild, and she says she gave them all of her personal information. She’s worried after hearing they gave out personal information. She says it happens all too often though. “If someone gets into my bank account and takes my identity, I just don’t know what it would be like to deal with that," said Damon.We reached out to FEMA to find out how many Lilac Fire victims were involved in the oversharing. 1170

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Inside Boca Helping Hands, Mel Lazerick mans the pantry desk and hands out apples and bags of produce."I like to do things for other people because I've been fortunate," said Mel, who has devoted most of his life volunteering.At 100-years-old, Mel is the oldest volunteer and donates his time to help feed the hungry three days a week. Executive Director Greg Hazle describes Mel as an inspiration."Just to be active at that age and active helping people is an inspiring way to live," Hazle said.Mel has been handing out groceries at Boca Helping Hands for 20 years with a smile and a sense of humor."I worked it in with my golf and tennis, and I was able to find time," Mel said. "People are very nice to me, and I try to be nice to them."Mel moved from Ohio years ago and settled in South Florida. He recently celebrated his 100th birthday at Helping Hands, and has worked side-by-side with long-time buddy Harold Bader."He's very well-liked. He's very hard-working, even though he's 100," said Bader, who picks Mel up and drives him home. "It made me realize age has nothing to do with your abilities to do things, and he proves that every day.Mel has been volunteering for decades. He joined Big Brothers and Big Sisters more than 70 years ago, and he still keeps in contact with his two younger brothers."One is 65-years-old and one is 92," Mel said.Now, Mel will be honored for his service on October 20, when Boca Helping Hands will celebrate its volunteers. Mel said he has no plans to slow down and hopes to volunteer for another 20 years.  1581
