SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - North Park’s Chicken Pie Shop is celebrating 80 years in business Friday and Saturday with deals for customers. The restaurant was originally located on 5th Avenue downtown. Then-owner George Whitehead moved his business to Hillcrest. The storefront at 5th and Robinson now houses a Starbucks.Eventually, Whitehead’s longtime employee John Townsend bought the business and moved it to El Cajon Blvd. at Oregon St. Townsend handed it down to his two sons.“Our father worked so hard for so many years. It’s a grind; you gotta be up for the task each and every day.”Bob Townsend is proud of the Chicken Pie Shop's history. He estimates the number of chicken pies sold at more than 30 million.“People just keep coming,” said Townsend. “They respect good old-school cooking.”Townsend described customers who travel to San Diego and head straight to North Park from the airport. Others buy coolers to bring home some of the restaurant’s frozen creations. Some devoted patrons included boxer Archie Moore and Mesa College coach Bill Sandback, both of whom Townsend served regularly until they passed. It’s not just the customers who stick around. The restaurant's dessert baker has been working for Chicken Pie Shop for 55 years and is now in his 80s.“If I made him retire, he’d probably die,” Townsend said. While Townsend is invested in the family legacy, his wife Lisa takes care of day-to-day operations while Townsend works as an instructor at Riverwalk Golf Course in Mission Valley. The Townsend family tradition may continue. Bob Townsend and his brother have four children combined.Want to check out the Chicken Pie Shop? Anniversary deals include: buy one chicken pie, get the second half-off, and a chicken pie with gravy and a roll for .80. 1791

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More rain arrived in San Diego Wednesday, less than a week after a storm swept through the county, leaving some areas flooded and city crews preparing for the wet weather. In Coronado, on First Street, crews worked to clear pipes near the shoreline. This is a large reason for flooding in the area. Public Services Director, Clifford Maurer, says flooding comes after sand and sediment gets into the storm drain from the high tides.“Some of the outfalls, the pipes that go into the bay or into the open waters have flapper valves on them. So they only allow water to go out, not come in,” says Maurer. “But when the water is above those valves there’s nothing you can do. There’s just nowhere for the water go."RELATED: Check out your daily forecastThe City of Coronado is also offering sandbags to residents. The bags are already filled and can be picked up at four different locations around the island. The City of San Diego is also preparing for the rain. Crews have signs and barricades already lined up in Mission Valley, an area frequent to flooding.Crews are placing bypass pumps in area they expect to flood. “Bypass pumps help relieve some areas of our system that may be overwhelmed with stormwater,” says Anthony Santacroce.RADAR: Live updating San Diego radarFifteen two-person crews that will be out patrolling areas within the city, looking for any storm damage or flooding. Both cities suggest homeowners should make sure the storm drains near their homes are clear of debris, so it doesn’t get swept in with the rain. 1558

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- New information Monday as doctors keep a close eye out for potentially new E. coli cases at the San Diego County Fair after four fell ill and a two-year-old boy died. This trip to the fair marks the first ever for a Vista sister and brother"It was a spur of the moment decision, we have a friend inside and I happen to have the day off so we came on over," said Jaime Costa. But the experience will be missing a fair staple, interacting with livestock and visiting the petting zoo. The health department has linked 4 cases of E. coli to animal contact.RELATED: Family mourns toddler dead after E. Coli exposure at San Diego County Fair"I've been here lots of times as a child and wanted my kids to have that experience, we didn't plan on going near the animals anyway, go to the rides, maybe have some fair food."Fair officials have removed the animals people could interact with and sanitized those areas. Jaime Costa says in the future they'll be extremely careful."We've done at safari park and various fairs, never thought about it, we wash hands but never thought of something like that happening.""I would expect more cases to come forward."RELATED: Two-year-old boy dead, three sickened due to E. Coli linked to San Diego County FairDr. Eric McDonald with the county says since news of the E. coli broke, pediatric patients going to the emergency room doubled over the weekend, but there were no new cases. "Don't generally recommend getting tested if you don't have symptoms, if you do develop symptoms should go see a physician.”If a child is showing symptoms, hydration is the most important step. What could make things worse, on the other hand, are antibiotics and anti-diarrhea medicine - both could increase the risk of complications."Alright enjoy the rest of your day folks, thanks for coming."Health officials say that children under five are at a higher risk of developing complications with E. coli. 1947

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a driver who reportedly hit two people crossing the street in East Village before running away. According to San Diego Police, the incident happened on the 300 block of 14th Street around 12:20 a.m. Sunday. Police say a 24-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were crossing 14th street in an unmarked crosswalk when the driver of a Ford Mustang attempted to make a U-turn, lost control and hit the pair. The crash left the woman pinned against the wall with a fractured hip and the man with abrasions, according to police. The driver ran away from the scene on foot and has yet to be located, police say. 658

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Officials with the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Air Show announced this year's air and ground military event has been canceled citing the coronavirus pandemic. The 66-year-old air acrobatics demonstration is one of the nation's largest military air shows drawing several hundred thousand spectators over the three-day weekend event.MCAS Miramar tweeted, "Due to the continuing spread and health concerns of #COVID19, @MCASMiramarCA must formally announce the cancellation of the 2020 Miramar Air Show. It is a disappointment to us as well as many across the world, but the safety of our Marines and fellow San Diegans must come first."This is the first time the event has been canceled since 2013 when the U.S. Department of Defense slashed budgets due to a government shutdown. This year's event was scheduled for September 25-27. Officials said they are aiming to bring back the event next year.“While we had initially hoped to host the show and help usher in a re-opened San Diego, there are still a great many risks posed with a mass gathering of this size and scale to do it in a way that ensures our guests absolute safety," said Col. Charles Dockery, Commanding Officer, MCAS Miramar."It remains a prudent choice to look ahead to 2021 and make it better than ever," said Dockery.STAY WITH 10NEWS FOR UPDATES TO THIS DEVELOPING STORY. 1371
