However, some surveys indicate that initial weekly claims may be underestimating the amount of those unemployed.At least one survey from the Economic Policy Institute found that millions of Americans gave up trying to seek benefits or didn't even attempt to due to states' overwhelmed and antiquated unemployment systems.Until recently, the stock market has been on a steady rise since March despite the staggering unemployment numbers. The city manager for Alameda, California, said a formal investigation is underway following the arrest of a man dancing in a street as part of his exercise routine.The man, Mali Watkins, was charged with resisting arrest. Why he was arrested in the first place is unclear.On May 23, two officers from Alameda Police approached the man after police received a report that a man was dancing in the street. When police arrived, they discovered Mali dancing in the street.When asked why he was dancing, Mali stated it was part of his exercise routine.After Mali began to walk away, videos show officers grabbing Mali by the wrist and detaining him. Mali was told if he resisted, he would be charged with resisting arrest, which is what happened.The city of Alameda said that the man is a resident of the city and is African American.“At this time, I do not know the reasons why the initial officers approached the call the way they did. I am hopeful that an investigation will provide better understanding to that question,” City Manager Eric Levitt said.In the last few days, the city has released body warn camera footage from the incident, in addition to a call into the police’s non-emergency line. The Cincinnati-area airport took a child’s beloved stuffed animal for an impromptu tour, reaching many on social media, before uniting the toy Dalmatian with its family in Florida. Staff at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport were sending the toy back to Florida on Friday. Spokesperson Mindy Kershner says the airport’s Facebook posts about the missing plaything reached 1 million people. Airport employees found the toy left behind in the terminal and snapped photos of the lost traveler outfitted in a mask at the airport’s restaurants, on the runway and with a K9 team. 600

The Cameron Peak Fire is now the largest wildfire in Colorado's history. It grew overnight and is now 164,140 acres, but it remains 56% contained and no injuries have been reported.The fire became the largest in Colorado history Wednesday evening. It took only 48 days for the Cameron Peak Fire to surpass the 139,007-acre Pine Gulch Fire as the largest in recorded state history, and also blew past the 137,760-acre Hayman Fire in 2002.In a Thursday morning update, Operations Section Chief Paul Demerico of Rocky Mountain Team 1 said they are expecting a challenging few days ahead."But we have beefed up and feel like we have adequate resources to do what we can, especially when it comes to structure protection," he said.Several areas near the fire are under mandatory or voluntary evacuations as a result of the blaze. Highway 34 was also temporarily shut down in both directions between Loveland and Estes Park to help with evacuations, but has reopened.In addition, the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Roosevelt National Forest closed Thursday morning.
