The massive new Museum of the Bible opens just blocks from the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. later this week.Measuring 430,000 square feet, the privately-funded, 0 million project houses over 2,800 artifacts going back to biblical times. Who doesn't come here to have an influence on Congress," said Steve Green, the chairman of the museum's board.As President of Hobby Lobby, Green has already made an impact in Washington and around the country when the Supreme Court in 2014 sided by a 5-4 vote with his company over the Obama Administration, ruling the Affordable Care Act's contraception mandate to be a violation of the family-owned, for-profit business' religious freedom.But Green says any influence the Museum of the Bible may have on members of Congress who come to view the exhibits is only a happy byproduct of the real reason why the museum found its way to its Washington location. According to Green, the museum's leadership selected the city for the capital's foot traffic, not politics, and executive director Tony Zeiss says their settling on a building so close to the Capitol "was simply coincidence." The museum, which opens Friday after seven years of planning, focuses on the history, stories, and impact of the Bible, and includes interactive features like a space re-creating Jesus's first-century village.But the museum doesn't shy away from American politics, either, with exhibits detailing the Bible's importance from 17th century Puritan settlers to the 20th century civil rights movement, and how the Bible was used to justify both pro- and anti-slavery stances that drove America into Civil War."We want people to see how it was used for the good, the bad, and the ugly," says Norm Conrad, the museum's curator for Americana and Biblical Imprints.If there's any lesson on today's politics and culture visitors should take away, the museum's leaders aren't telling. The National Football League announced on Wednesday that they'd canceled the 2021 Pro Bowl due to COVID-19.The news comes as the league deals with games being postponed due to players and coaches testing positive for the virus.The league added they are talking with the National Football League's Players Association to replace the game with virtual activities to replace the competition.The league stated that the players will still be named to Pro Bowl teams at the end of the season, which fans can begin voting for starting Nov. 17.The league will announce the results in December.The pro bowl was set to be played in Las Vegas in 2021, but they'll have to wait until 2022 to host it.This marks the first time since 1949 that the league hasn't played the pro bowl, ESPN reported. 791

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has released some of the video that was captured on Oct. 1 when police officers broke into the suite being used by mass shooter Stephen Paddock.Sheriff Joe Lombardo told the public on Tuesday that the department would release the video. Lombardo emphasized that the release of the video and other records would most likely retraumatize survivors and family members and that it would also put stress, both emotional and financial, on the department.  507

The National Guard is attempting to rescue dozens of people who are currently trapped at a California resort as the Creek Fire continues to burn out of control in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.According to The Washington Post, about 50 hikers remain trapped at the Vermilion Valley Resort with all escape routes cut off by the fire. The hikers have been sheltering in place at the resort since Sunday night.Officials have been unable to send rescue helicopters to the area due to low visibility caused by smoke from the fire. The area has dealt with high winds and record heat in recent days, which is making things difficult for both rescuers and firefighters.However, Col. Jesse Miller of the National Guard said Tuesday that the weather was beginning to turn."Mother Nature is trying to help us out this morning with some of the smoke clearing, allowing visibility for the aircraft to pick up the landing zones and get in safely to our folks here in California," Miller said in an interview on Good Morning America on Tuesday.So far, the wildfire is confirmed to have killed one person from smoke inhalation, according to the Fresno Fire Battalion. The Fresno County Sheriff's Office reports a second person died from a medical episode when EMS could not respond due to the conditions.According to CALFIRE, the Creek Fire remains 0% contained as of Monday evening. The fire has been burning since Thursday but nearly doubled in size on Monday alone to cover nearly 80,000 acres.Col. Jesse Miller told ABC News Tuesday morning that the National Guard is also attempting to send rescue helicopters to Hidden Lakes. The Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher says she expects to begin the manual recount process at 11 a.m. ET Friday.This comes after a Thursday order from the Secretary of State to complete a manual recount statewide for the Senate race and Agriculture Commissioner's race.Palm Beach County also must complete a manual recount for a State House race.Manual recounts are required when a candidate’s margin of victory is less than .25 percent.However, Bucher said first, they need to complete the machine recount for the Senate race before they can begin the manual recount.She said they have not completed the tabulation process to come up with vote totals for the Senate race to find all the over and under votes.“We just want to get to a place where we should start a manual recount. Right now we’re incomplete and we’re incomplete for various reasons, mostly because there were requirements that we show some duplicated, damaged ballots, and haven’t run those and requirements that we canvass ballots for over and under votes that were duplicated by staff," Bucher said.  "So, we’ve completed that process, but now we have to go run them through our tabulators to get the rest of our over unders.”  They do not have to manually recount every single ballot, only ones considered overvotes or undervotes.An overvote is a ballot in which the voter appeared to vote for more than one candidate in a race, and an undervote is a ballot in which the voter appeared to vote for no candidate in a race.An election worker, along with a representative from each political party, will review the ballots in question. If they cannot agree on the voter’s intent, it will go to the canvassing board.A judge’s ruling will determine the order of the recount races.The results are due by noon on Sunday.  1853
