HANGZHOU, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan has warned of offshore security threats and called for substantial preparation for a "people's war at sea" to safeguard sovereignty.
To address the acute challenges of uneven, uncoordinated and unsustainable development, China has implemented a vision of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development, making the Chinese economy a rarely bright spot in the global economy.
At a joint press conference held here with his Ugandan counterpart Sam Kutesa, Wang said that China is currently pressing on with the implementation of a pledge made by Chinese President Xi Jinping last year that the country would provide 100 million U.S. dollars in military assistance to the African Union to support the establishment of the African Standby Force.
Xi made the remarks as he met with Laotian President Bounnhang Vorachit ahead of the G20 Hangzhou summit. Bounnhang has been invited to attend the summit as a guest, as his country currently holds ASEAN rotating presidency.
Xi stressed that more specific Belt and Road policies should be worked out and major support should be focused on strategic projects including facilities cooperation, energy resource use and core technology research and development.
