SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A rare sight in Belmont Park - giant stuffed animals riding a historic roller coaster. According to the amusement park, the stuffed animals are being used the test the Giant Dipper. A spokesperson with the park says people passing through enjoyed catching a glimpse of the tests.The dipper has to be tested daily, but amid the coronavirus, the park had to get creative and decided to load the train up with massive stuffed animals. The tests come ahead of the coasters 95th birthday this July 4. The Giant Dipper was built by the Prior and Church Company in 1925 amid the Golden Age of wooden roller coasters, the park says. In 1976, the entire park closed due to financial difficulties. After the park closed, a group of San Diegans formed a Save the Coaster Committee and obtained a state historic preservation grant to help start the restoration, the park says. Later, in 1990, the San Diego Coaster Company was formed, signing a lease with the City of San Diego to restore the coaster. At last, it was restored at a cost of million, according to the park. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local organization is raising money for a good Samaritan that died in February in Pine Valley. Sunday, the It's All About the Kids Foundation hosted the "Be Like Bob" art show to raise money for a scholarship in Bob Bruno's honor. Bruno died in February when he stopped to help a driver on the I-8 in Pine Valley. While helping, there was another accident and to avoid being hit, Bruno jumped over the side of the guardrail, falling into the canyon below. "I think he would be really honored to know that we were memorializing him this way," said Gwendolyn Sneed, Bruno's long-time partner. According to Zillow, million in San Diego can buy a single-family home that has 2,410 square feet, four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Families in Chula Vista can get more for their money, where million can buy a 3,890 square foot home with five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. On a slightly lighter note, million can typically buy a 1,900 square foot, three bedroom, two bathroom home in Los Angeles, Zillow reports. In the U.S., the typical million home is a detached single-family house with about 2,200 square feet with four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new scam appears to target local Amazon customers worried about being victims of package theft.Neighbors at the Escala community in Mission Valley say package thefts have been an ongoing problem for the last few years.Could the trend be providing fuel for a scam? A recent encounter at the housing complex could point to a new method by scammers.Adriana Alberdi, who has lived at the complex for a decade, said she and other residents received an email from the property management company describing a recent visitor.According to the email, the man — described as blond and in his early 20s — was wearing a lanyard connected to a tablet. He had business cards and claimed to work at Amazon. At one point, the man went to the on-site office pushing to install an Amazon Key device in homes. The new service allows Amazon to gain access to a home or car to deliver packages and keep them from getting stolen.The email says the man was "pushy" and "argumentative," before finally leaving. Amazon confirmed the man was not an employee."It's like you're getting robbed of your security. You don't know who to trust anymore," said Alberdi. "This is new. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Hillcrest man is still recovering in the hospital after he says he was attacked, leaving him with a head injury and partial paralysis.Ricky Jackle says he was walking with a friend on Robinson Avenue in Hillcrest October 14.“I was out with a friend of mine. Had a few drinks at The Rail.” According to Jackle, that’s when the assault took place.“Last thing I remember, there was a confrontation between the person I was with and somebody else. I tried to get in the middle of it to stop in. I was pushed on my chest, went backwards and hit my head on the curb. Apparently that’s when I bled out. I heard voices, by friend’s voice behind me,” said Jackle.Jackle says after the incident, his friend fled the scene.In tears, Jackle describes how the assault has changed his life. “I can’t work, I can’t do the things I used to do. I’m scared.”“I don’t think anyone should be attacked or a victim like I was, I don’t think it’s right.”While under observation at the hospital, Jackle began to feel numbness in his hands and arms which resulted in loss of movement in his hands, arms and legs, according to a GoFundMe post.“The injury caused swelling which compressed his spinal cord resulting in loss of movment [sic] and some paralysis,” according to the post.Jackle’s cousin, Derrick Roach spoke about the friend who left Jackle following the attack. “He said the reason I left Ricky is with all the blood I thought he was dead. Why would you leave someone in that condition?”Friends and family members are still searching for the suspect in the alleged attack. The incident left Jackle with 0,000 in medical bills.
