SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The County has announced 61 sites where you can easily drop off your mail ballot ahead of the March 3 primary. According to County News Center, those who wait to drop off their ballot past Tuesday, February 25 may want to drop it off at one of the county sites before Election Day. The drop-off sites will be open during each location’s business hours from Monday, February 24 through Election Day Tuesday, March 3. “More than 1.3 million San Diego County voters have chosen the convenience of mail ballots and that number continues to rise,” said Registrar Michael Vu. “The early drop-off sites provide a great service for voters. They help with the timely return of mail ballots and decrease the high volume of voters dropping off mail ballots at polling places on Election Day.”The sites are located at 61 libraries throughout the county. Click here for a list of locations. The county warns that the sites are not for early voting, but for mail ballots only. Voters can also drop off their mail ballot or vote in person at the Registrar of Voters located at 5600 Overland Avenue. The office is open 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Election Day, the office will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The office will also be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 29 and Sunday, March 1. If you've already sent your mail ballot, click here to see whether or not it's been received by the Registrar of Voters. 1457
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Confederate monument at the center of an emotional debate has been removed from inside a city-owned cemetery in San Diego."It's a relief. I'm glad," said Amanda Bergara.Amid the recent protests aimed at racial injustice, Bergara was one of nearly 2,800 people to sign an online petition calling on San Diego's mayor to take down a confederate monument from inside Mount Hope Cemetery."It's a symbol of hate and disrespect for those who fought with their lives to end slavery," said Bergara.RELATED: Online petition seeks removal of Confederate memorial in San Diego cemeteryBuried in the cemetery are both Union and Confederate soldiers, who later lived in San Diego. The memorial, erected in 1948, names General Stonewall Jackson. In June, ABC 10News discovered the stone on the monument heavily damaged, with vandalism an ongoing issue. Unlike other Confederate markers removed in San Diego, the plot on which the monument sits is privately owned, and the city has maintained its hands are tied. The owner, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and supporters have said such markers are monuments to history. In the end, a city spokesperson says it was removed weeks ago at the request of the Confederate group, presumably to protect it from vandals. The monument is being stored by the city."Hopefully ending the hurt and pain for those who would have seen it and felt that hurt and pain. I hope it never sees the light of day," said Bergara. Not all the hurt is gone. A flagpole remains, along with a marker that includes the name, Stonewall Jackson. Bergara says that the marker must also go.ABC 10News reached out to the United Daughters of the Confederacy about their plans for the flagpole and future plans for the monument, and are waiting to hear back. 1790

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of Kiera Bergman says a recent development in her murder case has left them frustrated and fearful. The 19-year-old woman was missing for weeks before her body was discovered in the desert outside of Phoenix last year. Bergman's boyfriend, Jon Clark, was charged in the murder; but this month, a judge lowered his bond from million to 0,000. RELATED: Friends and family celebrate the life of Kiera Bergman"I fear for my family, I fear for her roommate and any other girls out there that he could have the opportunity to start manipulating," said Kiersten Bragg, Bergman's mother. According to CBS 5 Phoenix, Clark's lawyers argued there's new evidence that might clear him in his trial. They also say that in original court paperwork, police detectives made comments that didn't add up. If Clark does bail out, he'll have to wear an ankle monitor. RELATED: Court documents: Kiera Bergman may have been pregnant at time of her death"I just yeah, I broke down and lost it, called my husband and let him know," said Bragg. She's frustrated Clark could potential go home and be somewhat comfortable, while her daughter will never get that chance again. Previous court documents reveal suspicious text messages and Wi-fi records as some of the evidence police used to arrest Clark. Documents also showed a history of domestic disputes.RELATED: Kiera Bergman case: Charges filed against ex-boyfriend in death of El Cajon womanClark's trial is scheduled for early next year but has already been postponed several times.10News reached out to Clark's attorneys but did not hear back. 1618
