He took a friend, a flashlight and a small aluminum baseball bat but he thought he was picking up documents from a private investigator.Instead, as he approached the spot off Rancho Santa Fe Road and Avenida Soledad, he shined his flashlight around and spotted someone dressed in camouflage pointing a long gun right at him.Before he knew what was happening he was hit once in the side, the bullet exiting out his back.In the courtroom Tuesday, his ex-wife and the man accused of firing the gun, her weapons instructor, sat quietly, Lovejoy crying at times and shaking her head at others. Mulvihill was cross-examined Tuesday and the trial will resume Wednesday morning. 1506

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Deputies arrested a man they say kidnapped his girlfriend’s 8-year-old son early Wednesday morning.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the alleged kidnapping happened on the 300 block of Hillside Terrace at 2:15 a.m.Authorities say Guillermo Cruz, 32, was intoxicated when he drove to his girlfriend’s house, jumped a balcony fence, and abducted the woman’s sleeping 8-year-old son. Deputies say Cruz is not the child’s father.After calling 911, deputies spotted the vehicle Cruz was driving and pulled him over before making the arrest. The young boy was unharmed.Deputies say they noticed Cruz had an empty vodka bottle in the car with him. He was arrested on multiple charges, including child abduction, kidnapping, child endangerment, driving under the influence and burglary. 832

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The COVID-19 pandemic has hit communities hard in many different ways.A new survey shows it's also taken a toll on museums, with some not sure whether they'll be able to keep their doors open.At the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), you'd find all sorts of displays.The museum reopened in July after being closed roughly five months during the pandemic.“We've had just around 3,000 people come through the museum over the last three months,” Brad Tuggle, Director of Audience Development for Virginia MOCA, said. “Our museum is in a good spot relative to where it could be.”Tuggle told News 3 the museum had concerns at first.“There were a lot of furloughs with the museum; we went down to about 40% of our staff,” Tuggle said. “We didn't know if this pandemic was going to shut us down for three months or three years.”The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) surveyed museums to get a feel for impacts from the pandemic.“Anecdotally, we knew that museums were significantly impacted by the pandemic the second they had to close their doors,” AAM Director of Marketing and Communications Natanya Khashan said.Khashan told News 3 at least 750 museum directors responded to the survey in June.One-third of those responding were not confident they would be able to survive 16 months without additional financial relief, and 16% felt their organization was at a significant risk of permanent closure.AAM added, during the pandemic, 75% of museums stepped into roles as educators providing virtual education programs and experiences. Two-thirds of directors predicted cuts in education, programming, and other public services due to significant budget cuts.“It is really unfortunate, and the number isn't surprising because museums have to cut where they can in order to survive the impact of the pandemic,” Khashan said.Tuggle said funding from the City of Virginia Beach and other partners helped.“We had a lot of people on staff and the community that in that first month really stepped up,” he said.He added the museum also launched a virtual museum online for people during the pandemic.“It really gave us an avenue to get that artwork out to the world, which is what we're here for,” he said.As they continue on, Khashan hopes many will support other museums around the country during this time.“Their communities are going to need their museums more than ever to help sustain their economies and their educational systems, and to provide respite and healing as we look towards the recovery in the future,” she said.This story was first reported by Zak Dahlheimer at WTKR in Norfolk, Virginia. 2633

Walt Disney World is extending its parks hours ahead of Halloween weekend.Back on Sept. 8, the park reduced its hours because of a drop in attendance due to the coronavirus pandemic.Well, it looks like Disney has changed course and will stay open an hour longer in most parts of their park.According to the calendar on its website, Magic Kingdom will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.Until recently, it was closing at 8 p.m. on the weekends. Now, it'll remain open until 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in November, as well as on three Sundays: Nov. 8, 15, and 22, according to the calendar.Magic Kingdom will stay open until 9 p.m. throughout the week, beginning Nov. 9 up through Thanksgiving weekend.The calendar also showed that Epcot would close at 9 p.m. on Fridays and 10 p.m. on Saturdays. They both open at 11 a.m.In November, Epcot will stay open until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and three Sundays: Nov. 8, 15, and 22. Department of Health has released an open letter appealing to all White House staff and those attending a Sept. 26 event in the Rose Garden to seek medical advice and take a coronavirus test.The letter indicates a lack of confidence in the White House medical team’s contact tracing efforts for the virus outbreak that infected President Donald Trump, multiple senior staff members and two U.S. senators, among others.Co-signed by nine other local health departments from neighboring jurisdictions in Maryland and Virginia, the letter says contact tracing on the outbreak has been insufficient and “there may be other staff and residents at risk for exposure to COVID positive individuals.”The move highlights the public health dilemma faced by Mayor Muriel Bowser’s administration regarding the current outbreak.
