BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares continued Tuesday's rising momentum to hit a new high with Shanghai Composite Index closing at 3,188.55 on Wednesday, setting the highest close since June 2008 as coal, nonferrous metal and auto shares bolstered the rise.     The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 1.38 percent, or 43.39 points, to 3,188.55.     The Shenzhen Component Index advanced 0.68 percent, or 88.19 points, to 13,079.26. Ltd. reaching the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 18.43 yuan and 28.27 yuan, respectively.     Nonferrous metal shares gained as the industry forecasts a rebound in the second half of the year based on the recovery expectation of China's economy. Yuannan Copper Co. Ltd. and Jiaozuo Wanfang Aluminum Manufacturing rose by the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 24.68 yuan and 15.99 yuan, respectively.     Auto shares performed well as the Chinese government unveiled details on Tuesday night of a subsidy program for auto replacement, a fresh measure to stimulate private spending and curb pollution. Chang'an Auto rose 8.67 percent to 11.15 yuan, and Guizhou Tyre advanced 6.41 percent to 13.29 yuan.     Steel shares posted a widespread gain on the anticipation of increased demand from automobile, manufacturing and construction industries. Hangzhou Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. rose by the daily limit. Baosteel, the country's biggest steel maker, gained 1.46 percent to close at 8.36 yuan, setting its highest close in about a year. BRUSSELS, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Senior officials and scholars from the European Union (EU) and China held a conference here, urging the two sides to enhance cooperation dedicated to seeking a global solution to the financial crisis.     "After the financial crisis hit us, we stood closer, supported each other and worked together for an early recovery of our economy and that of the world. We become tightly bound more than ever before," Chinese ambassador to the EU Song Zhe said in a keynote speech at the conference in the European Parliament on Monday.     "We have every reason to cooperate," Song said, adding China and the EU have converging interest and share common responsibility.     Sino-EU relations has experienced slight derailing last year, as China postponed a summit with the EU due to French President Nicolas Sarkozy's decision to meet the ** Lama when France held the EU presidency. Relations appeared back on track in the face of the global financial crisis.     Early this year, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited Europe on a Journey of Confidence. Later during the G20 summit in London early this month, President Hu Jintao met a number of European leaders to consolidate mutual trust.     In an effort to build a joint front against the financial and economic crisis, a trade and investment delegation from China last month struck multi-billion-U.S.-dollar deals with European companies to boost trade.     Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan is scheduled to visit Brussels next week for high-level economic dialogues with EU counterparts.     The 11th China-EU Summit will be held in Prague in mid-May, as the Czech Republic is holding the current EU presidency.     The EU is the biggest organization of developed countries and China is the biggest developing country, Song said, adding bilateral relationship takes on greater global and strategic importance.     Antonie Quero-Mussot, deputy head of cabinet of EU Commissioner for economic and monetary affairs, noted that cooperation between the EU, China and beyond is a necessary condition for a solution to the global financial crisis.     "Without the dialogue not only between the EU and China, but also between all the major economies... there will not be a solution to the crisis," he said.     His remark was echoed by Mei Zhaorong, former president of Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs.     "We can not solve the problem alone but have to work together," Mei said at the conference.     He also downplayed the possibility of a G2 framework, under which the United States and China are expected to have a joint central role of leading the world out of the crisis.     "We are not of the opinion that we alone with the U.S. can solve the problem," Mei said, "I do not think Europe like that opinion either."     "I think the current form of G20 are far better. We should look at developing countries and emerging economies," he added.

XI'AN, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has urged the country's college students to find grassroots jobs in less developed regions as the economic downturn increases pressures in employment market.     Visiting Xi'an, capital of central Shaanxi Province, from Friday to Sunday, Wen said employment was one of the government's priorities for the sake of the country's economy and for the future of individuals.     "College students, laid-off workers and migrant workers waiting for jobs are my biggest concern," Wen told job hunters at an employment center.     He encouraged graduates from universities and colleges to find work in grassroots regions, and called on employers to create more jobs.     Since the second half of last year, the government has implemented a series of policies to create jobs. The State Council, or Cabinet, also decided to give living allowances to graduates who went to the central and western regions for internships.     Everyone should have a resolute belief that they should try their best no matter what their job was, Wen told students at Xi'an Jiaotong University. HELSINKI, June 25 (Xinhua) -- China and Finland on Thursday agreed to push for closer economic cooperation to tackle the ongoing global financial crisis.     Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang unveiled broad measures to work together with Finland to fight the global financial crisis after meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen. Li and Vanhanen joined a signing ceremony of several government and business agreements between the two sides, under which Li said China would purchase Finland's advanced environment-friendly technologies.     China would also send a large group of entrepreneurs to Finland within two weeks to make major purchases of Finnish goods, according to Li. HANOI, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended the 9th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Asia-Europe Meeting here on Monday and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.     Yang said with deepening globalization, the destinies of Asia and Europe have been tied together. Countries must intensify cooperation, deepen mutual trust and build a new and closer Asia-Europe partnership.     To build such a partnership, Yang said countries should enhance mutual understanding through dialogue on an equal footing. Countries should promote development through intensified cooperation. Countries should advocate mutual tolerance through expanded exchanges. Countries should strengthen its institution building to ensure the vitality.     Yang made several suggestions to cope with the ongoing financial and economic crisis and other global challenges.     First, Yang said countries should strengthen confidence and strive for economic recovery and growth. Countries should firmly oppose all forms of protectionism and take concrete steps to help develop countries maintain financial stability and work together to overcome the international financial crisis.     Second, countries should take active measures to counter the threat of A/H1N1 flu and other infectious diseases and minimize the impact of the flu on global trade and economic activities, said Yang.     Third, countries should think for the future, remain committed to the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities" and step up cooperation in tackling climate change.     Fourth, countries should increase input and foster and follow anew energy security concept that calls for win-win cooperation, diverse forms of development and common security through coordinated supply, said Yang.     Fifth, countries should promote peaceful and negotiated settlement of hotspot issues and regional disputes on the basis of mutual respect, mutual trust and cooperation. The international community should fully respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries concerned, provide active and constructive help, and avoid willfully applying pressure or sanctions.     Yang said to deal with the international financial crisis, China has adjusted its macro-economic policies and implemented positive fiscal policy and loosened its monetary policy in an appropriate manner.     China has launched a package of measures to expand domestic consumption and stabilize export market and these measures have started to take effect.     As a responsible member of the international community, China will continue to work together with other ASEM members to strengthen coordination in the macro-economic policy, advance the reform of international financial system and actively safeguard the stability of the multi-lateral trade system.     The 9th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) opened here on Monday with the participation of foreign ministers and delegates from 45 ASEM members in the two-day meeting.     Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung delivered the opening speech of the meeting.
