They convinced the victim to continue sending money, but would always give an excuse why the pair couldn't meet in person."They have pictures of boxes and boxes of gift cards that were sent. If someone is asking you for something like that, just don't believe it," said Vincent.FBI Special Agent Richard Baer specializes in white collar crime like this. He said scammers have become skilled in creating convincing stories."They sit full-time in a lot of different places around the world with information and the interconnection that we all have with social media and the internet. They're targeting people," said Baer.Baer said gift card transactions or someone asking for money very urgently are all signs that the person on the other end may not be who they say they are. Also, they tend to play on fans or people who seem like they're lonely."It can have real negative implications. It might cause strains in personal relationships," he said.It caused stress for Vincent, who said the victim's ex-wife has contacted her husband repeatedly, asking and accusing Vincent of sending her ex-husband naked photos. She wasn't."I am concerned that a wife, a jealous wife that thinks her husband is getting naked photos from me or is leaving her. That concerns me. I think it's getting into a dangerous situation," said Vincent.Even though Vincent, her husband and the FBI have all told the fan that he had been scammed, he's continuing to talk with the scammer.She said other fans have also been targeted, a police officer was contacted in a similar manner. A scammer was trying to get the officer's personal information."[They] said 'prove what a super fan that you are. We want you to prove it. Send us a check and we'll send you some merchandise. You sell the merchandise and prove to us what a super fan that you are.' (AP) — Authorities in northern Nevada say a woman drowned after falling off a boat carrying six children on Lake Tahoe and a man who jumped off the boat to try to rescue her had to be hospitalized for severe hypothermia. The Tahoe Douglas Fire District said the incident occurred Friday evening near Zephyr Cove on the east side of the lake. After the woman and the man went into the water, the boat with the children still aboard drifted further from shore. The district said one of its boat crews rescued the children in the middle of the lake and that they were unhurt.No identities were released. 626

in Arizona over the weekend.Officers with the Prescott Police Department responded to a report of a disorderly female wearing a wedding dress who tried to assault an employee at a local business.Once police contacted a group of people at the location, officers say 32-year-old Eric Cordova became aggressive and refused to cooperate. He allegedly fought with the officer and both fell to the ground. During the struggle, several people that were with Cordova began to assault the officer and refused to obey commands, according to the department.Additional officers arrived on scene and eventually gained control of the group.Among them was 30-year-old Ashely Jordan, who was still wearing her wedding dress. Women have been hit harder by job loss during the pandemic, according to an analysis by the Institute for Women's Policy Research.It found in April that the unemployment rate for women increased almost three percentage points above the rate for men. It's a direct contrast to the 2008 recession, which left more men out of work.The institute says this time is different because women dominate the fields that have had the most coronavirus-related layoffs, like hospitality and education.Women of color are even more heavily impacted, with the unemployment rate highest amongst Hispanic women.The institute's president and CEO, C. Nicole Mason, says many of those were low wage jobs.“Many of these women, both black and Latina women, women of color were economically vulnerable before the start of the pandemic,” said Mason. “And the pandemic has only worsened those circumstances and their vulnerability.It's disheartening after a strong start to the year, when the institute celebrated women making up 50% of the workforce.They tell us women will face more challenges getting back to work compared to men.“If it feels hard, it's because it is,” said Mason. “Communities, businesses, as well as policy makers need to step up to make sure that women who are unemployed have the opportunity to reenter the workforce and those who can't have the necessary social supports they need to be able to take care of their families.”The institute says the biggest barrier is a lack of childcare support.
