BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese auto maker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group is ready to inject 900 million U.S. dollars operating capital into Volvo on top of the 1.8 billion U.S. dollars purchase price, Geely chairman Li Shufu said Tuesday."We should not only inject money into Volvo, but also endeavor to improve Volvo's profit-making capability," Li said at a press conference to discuss the Volvo takeover.The Zhejiang-based Geely signed a deal with Ford Motor Co. BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday again called for more diplomatic efforts to resolve the Iran nuclear issue."We hope all the parties to further enhance diplomatic efforts on the Iran nuclear issue," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told a regular press conference.Jiang said China had maintained close contact with all the relevant parties and hoped all the parties would take more pragmatic and positive measures to properly solve the issue.China has always committed itself to safeguarding the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, the spokesman said.The United States and its western allies have long accused Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian program, and currently they are discussing a United Nations resolution to impose sanctions.Iran has denied the accusation and stressed its nuclear program was solely for peaceful purposes.

BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Malta President George Abela missed the spectacular opening ceremony of the World Expo in Shanghai because of a leg injury, but he felt something that he said he would remember forever during the special Chinese tour.In the morning of April 30, twelve hours before the opening ceremony of the World Expo, Abela's leg was hurt in an accident. The head of the Mediterranean state was rushed to the city's best Ruijin Hospital."I will not meet with President Hu Jintao on a wheelchair," said Malta President George Abela lying on a hospital bed in Shanghai, striving to stand up, but failed.Absent from the opening session held beside the Huangpu River that evening, Abela, who was supposed to be there, watched in his ward the live TV show of those magnificent dancing, singing and splendid fireworks."I'm not there, but I can feel as the Chinese do," Abela was quoted by a Chinese diplomat as saying.President Hu, upon his knowledge of the accident, immediately instructed senior officials of the Chinese Foreign Ministry to visit Abela in hospital.On May 1, Hu met with six foreign leaders who came to the Chinese economic hub for the first World Expo in a developing country. HARBIN, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were killed, and 98 more injured after a tornado and hailstorm struck northeast China's Heilongjiang Province Saturday, a local official source said Sunday.Altogether 8,502 people were affected, among whom 3,684 were evacuated, after 28 townships of Suihua City, about 120 km from the provincial capital Harbin, were hit by the violent weather from 3:15 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. Saturday, Suihua's emergency response office said in a statement.A total of 1,015 houses were toppled down in the tornado, and Minqiang Village of Gongrong township was hit the hardest, with the roofs of every house being uplifted, it said.Five people of Beilin District and one from Suihua's Lanxi County were killed. The strong wind tore through eight townships of Hailun city under the jurisdiction of Suihua, killing one more people."I was cooking at the outer room when the tornado came. I attempted to close the window, but the wind was so strong and fast that the house collapsed before I could close it," said Wang Junxia, a woman from Xinquan Village of Beilin District, Suihua City.Wang was temporarily buried beneath bricks, but she managed to crawl out of the rubble and saved by the rescuers.Relief work was underway.Two hundred quilts and more than 500 kg of bread were sent to the affected Beilin District.
