SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras — Hundreds of Hondurans devastated by recent hurricanes have been stopped as they tried to walk towards the United States in the latest attempt at a migrant caravan.Roughly 600 men, women and children tried to walk from the northern city of San Pedro Sula toward the border with Guatemala. But on Thursday they were stopped by Honduran security personnel, who demanded they show papers and coronavirus tests.Hundreds of thousands of Hondurans remain homeless after the November hurricanes. There are concerns about safety at some of the shelters and the potential of rapid coronavirus spread.Last week, Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández asked for U.S. help, warning that food shortages as a result of crop loss caused by Hurricanes Eta and Iota could spur more migration to the U.S.Aid agencies report nearly 7 million people between southern Mexico and Colombia are in need of assistance following the catastrophic storms, according to NPR.Hurricanes Eta and Iota both came ashore as dangerous Category 4 storms on November 3 and November 17 respectively, making landfall in roughly the same region along the border between Nicaragua and Honduras."Hurricane Eta affected almost all of Central America, including Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize and Nicaragua," Steve McAndrew, deputy regional director, for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies told NPR. SEATTLE, Wash. – Models show a “second wave” of coronavirus deaths beginning in the United States in September, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation said Thursday.The IHME has extended its COVID-19 forecasts through Oct. 1 and the institute says they show 169,890 deaths in the US by October 1, with a possible range between 133,201 and 290,222.IHME says deaths nationwide are predicted to remain fairly level through August and begin to rise again at the end of the month, with a more pronounced increase during September. However, the institute says some states will see the increase earlier due to increased mobility and relaxation of social distancing mandates.“We’re now able to look ahead and see where states need to begin planning for a second wave of COVID-19,” said IHME Director Dr. Christopher Murray. “We hope to see our model proven wrong by the swift actions governments and individuals take to reduce transmission.”Based on IHME’s models, these states are estimated to have the highest numbers of deaths by Oct. 1:· New York: 32,310 (range between 31,754 and 33,241)· New Jersey: 13,177 (12,881–13,654)· California: 8,821(7,151–12,254)· Michigan: 8,771 (7,098–14,743)IHME says the states with the earliest uptick in deaths, according to current modeling, are Florida, Arizona, Georgia, and Colorado.“If the US is unable to check the growth in September, we could be facing worsening trends in October, November, and the following months if the pandemic, as we expect, follows pneumonia seasonality,” Dr. Murray said.According to IHME, increasing travel in some states and the overlap with the flu season are likely to impact hospital demand for services in fall and winter.The IHME is an independent population health research center at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Scientists are tracking an object heading toward earth that could enter the planet’s orbit, and they are not entirely sure what it is.The object, named Asteroid 2020 SO, is believed to be man made and not a piece of moon or other planetary debris."I suspect this newly discovered object 2020 SO to be an old rocket booster because it is following an orbit about the Sun that is extremely similar to Earth's, nearly circular, in the same plane, and only slightly farther away (than) the Sun at its farthest point," Dr. Paul Chodas, the director of NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies, told CNN."That's precisely the kind of orbit that a rocket stage separated from a lunar mission would follow, once it passes by the Moon and escapes into orbit about the Sun. It's unlikely that an asteroid could have evolved into an orbit like this, but not impossible,” Dr. Chodas continued.Other publications believe the object could be from Surveyor 2, which was launched in September 1966.Scientists are estimating 2020 SO will enter earth’s orbit in November 2020, then pass by earth at a distance of roughly 30,000 miles in December, before heading back out to space in early 2021.For perspective, commercial planes fly at an altitude of about 7 miles on average.There is no danger to earth posed by 2020 SO, but its slow speed and relatively close pass-by, means scientists can study it. (KGTV) - A 3-month-old golden retriever puppy with a price tag of ,700 was stolen from a pet shop Thursday night in Santee.That’s according to Sharon Franco, the owner of Pups and Pets, who has surveillance video of an unidentified man grabbing the dog while in a play-pen and running out the front door.The man had been in the store earlier but came back a second time and asked to play with the golden retriever puppy, said Franco.He played with it for about 5 minutes before he picked it up and ran out of the store.Two employees tried to run after him but said a car was waiting outside. They described it as an older model Audi with Florida plates.Anyone with information is urged to call the San Diego Sheriff’s Department. 754
