(AP) -- Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke has been banned from Twitter for breaking the social media platform's site's rules.The company said Friday that Duke's account "has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of the Twitter Rules on hateful conduct."It didn't specify what exactly Duke posted that triggered the ban, but it's policy on hateful conduct prohibits promoting violence against people based on religious affiliation, race and ethnic origin.Twitter said the ban was in line with its recently updated policy aimed at cutting down on harmful links. 584

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police believe a University of San Diego professor accused of making threats against fellow professors may have a gun in his possession.Last week, 10News reported on the ordeal unfolding inside USD's Theology and Religious Studies Department: Fliers circulating with three pictures of professors, labeling them "fascists" and urging boycotts of their classes. Versions of the flier with gun cross-hairs were slipped under those professors' doors. 10News has learned two of those professors have filed for restraining orders against fellow professor Louis Komjathy, now suspended by the school.RELATED: Professor accused of threats made against University of San Diego professorsSan Diego Police filed for their own gun violence restraining order to take away any weapons, a request granted by a judge citing "credible information" Komjathy owns one or more firearms, ammunition or magazines. In the restraining order petition, officers say when they asked him about owning a gun, he said, "I do not. Search my apartment and my car if you want."Meanwhile, there are new details about Komjathy's motive for the fliers. Komjathy had been passed over for a promotion, and in the police interview, he reportedly said, "It was supposed to be symbolic representation of having a target on their backs and being singled out. I did not mean to infer violence on anyone ..."The possibility of an actual gun is once again sparking lingering questions raised at a recent student protest, concerns the school didn't notify students in time.  A Florida man has been charged with 144 counts related to cruelty to animals.The State Attorney's Office has charged 51-year-old Robert David Starkweather after investigators found what 77 cows, 48 calves, and 2 donkeys found on his Hendry County farm.Photos taken by the local Sheriff's Office showed animals as bags of bones."That's got to be the most horrific fate, worst way to go," local animal rescuer Carey Kendzior said. "These are massive animals and it would take months to let it get to that point of cruelty and neglect. There's no excuse."Rescuers came too late for some. There were 13 animals found dead upon arrival."I don't care who you are. No reason for you to be in charge of animals," Kendzior said.The Hendry County Sheriff's Office investigated the case with assistance from both the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the Collier County Sheriff's Office. The animals were sized and were taken from the property and moved to another location.One calf died and five had to be euthanized due to their poor health conditions after being looked at by a veterinarian.Dr. Laura Braun is a vet in Fort Myers.  CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A driver in a stolen car led officers on a pursuit through Chula Vista Saturday before officers were able to apprehend him in a tunnel, an officer said.Police received information Saturday morning that a car had been stolen from El Cajon as part of a burglary, and officers were notified before 10:15 a.m. that the car had been spotted at a home near View Park Way and East Palomar Street, Chula Vista Police Lt. Rusty Rea said.The car left as officers were heading to the house, and a pursuit ensued, with the driver leading officers north onto state Route 125, Rea said. Officers soon backed off as the driver continued to proceed recklessly on the freeway and allowed a police helicopter to keep an eye on him, he said.The car entered the tunnel on the transition road from northbound Route 125 to westbound Route 54 and the helicopter crew did not see it come out the other side, Rea said. Calls from passers-by confirmed the driver had stopped the car inside the tunnel and was trying to get away on foot.Police closed the tunnel and were able to arrest the driver, identified as 25-year-old David Felix. 1143
