(AP) — Authorities say an armed man who held off SWAT members for 10 hours surrendered after one of them sang him a Christmas carol.Nathaniel Lewis, of Chester County, Pennsylvania, was taken into custody in East Vincent Township early on Dec. 26.The Reading Eagle reports the 34-year-old Lewis allegedly fired at police officers who had responded when a concerned relative reported him acting erratically Christmas night.The shots hit a police vehicle, a house and another vehicle. Police returned fire.Eventually a negotiator got Lewis to agree to surrender after singing "White Christmas" to him.Lewis was charged with multiple counts of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other offenses. (KGTV) - As 10News explores Life in El Cajon, we’re examining the rich history of a city that started with “gold in them thar hills.” The name means “the box” or drawer in Spanish, referring to the way the valley is boxed in by the mountains in East County. A structure that survived El Cajon’s long history is the Knox Hotel, which opened in 1876 to house people drawn to Julian during the Gold Rush. “The people who came here were not poor, they came and they could build lovely houses and buildings like this,” said Eldonna Lay, curator of the Knox House Museum. In 1889, the railroad arrived and the town began to thrive. El Cajon was incorporated in 1912, bringing advancements like street lights and cement sidewalks. El Cajon’s main attractions were citrus and chicken farming and a warm climate for people suffering from tuberculosis. Gillespie Field played a big role in World War II. It was then known as “Camp Gillespie.” “All of the planes were being made in San Diego but they were out in what became our airfield,” said Lay. In 1947, the Mother Goose Parade was a gift to children from local businesses. In 1961, Interstate 8 opened and businesses started booming. Lay believes growth means the sky is the limit for the city. “They're going to have to go higher, because we've run out of land,” said Lay. 1529

EL CAJON (CNS) - A 21-year-old man accused of leading Border Patrol agents on a high-speed pursuit that ended with a crash on Interstate 8 in Boulevard, killing three of the suspected undocumented immigrants riding in the pickup and injuring seven others, was charged today with murder and other counts.Arraignment for Luis Alberto Virgen, a U.S. citizen who lives in Tijuana, was postponed until Dec. 18 so he can hire an attorney. Two of the male passengers and the sole female member of the group died at the scene of the crash.The names of the deceased were withheld pending family notification. Paramedics took Virgen and the surviving passengers to a hospital for treatment of moderate to serious injuries, Garrow said.About an hour after the fatal accident, Border Patrol personnel in the area came across another vehicle believed to have been involved in the apparent human-smuggling attempt and arrested a second man. DOVER, Del. (AP) — Erik Moses has been named president of Nashville Superspeedway. He's the first Black man to hold that title at any NASCAR track. Moses most recently served as president of the XFL's DC Defenders. Prior to working for the XFL, Moses served as CEO of the DC Sports & Entertainment Commission, Director of D.C. Department of Small & Local Business Development, and Senior Vice President at Events DC.He now leads the charge of the scheduled Nashville reboot in 2021.
