SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A preliminary 6.6-magnitude earthquake that hit near Ridgecrest was felt throughout Southern California on Independence Day.The earthquake was recorded at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday between Ridgecrest and Searles Valley, in San Bernardino County, according to the United State Geologic Survey (USGS). The quake had a depth of about 5.4 miles.USGS later lowered the preliminary shake-up to 6.4.RELATED: Why didn't San Diego get an alert after July 4's earthquake?Ridgecrest city officials say 87 aftershocks have been recorded following the quake. Several more aftershocks are expected in the next couple of days, according to USGS seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones.Before the earthquake, USGS also recorded two earthquakes measuring 4.0 and 2.2 in San Bernardino County.Here in San Diego, numerous locals, from downtown San Diego up to Oceanside, reported to 10News that they felt the quake. The San Diego County Fair halted rides Thursday for safety inspections after the earthquake, before reopening. USGS "Did you feel it" responses were reported throughout the Southern California area as well.Ridgecrest press conference:Kern County Fire Department reported nearly two dozen incidents ranging from medical assistance to structure fires around Ridgecrest. Crews were also surveying highway passes throughout the city for safety.Ridgecrest Regional Hospital has been evacuated and there was some structural damage, according to Ridgecrest officials. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 74-year-old man reportedly hit a bicyclist with his truck in La Mesa Tuesday before leaving the scene thinking he simply hit a curb, police say. According to police, the crash happened on the 7000 block of University Avenue at 4:19 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the 74-year-old was driving his 1994 GMC pick-up truck when he turned right onto Harbinson Avenue and struck the 21-year-old bicyclist. Police say the cyclist was in a designated bicycle lane. The man kept driving, thinking he hit a curb, according to authorities. “When contacted by the police the driver of the pick-up truck was shocked to learn that he had hit a bicyclist and cooperated fully with the investigation,” La Mesa Police said in a news release. According to police, the bicyclist appeared to have a broken ankle as a result of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 619-667-1400. 906

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Clairemont woman says she came home to a break-in and heartbreak.On Friday afternoon at the Balboa Arms condos, Terri Harrison's adult daughter discovered a ransacked home.The intruder likely ripped a window screen before reaching in and unlocking the window.Missing from a bedroom was her daughter's laptop. In the master bedroom, a lock box was emptied of personal documents and some six pieces of jewelry, including a set of pearls belonging to her mom.Both her mother and father passed away two year ago."You wear something that's hers, you feel like she's close to you again ...
