Two World Health Organization experts are heading to the Chinese capital on Friday to lay the groundwork for a larger mission to investigate the origins of the coronavirus.An animal health expert and an epidemiologist will meet Chinese counterparts in Beijing to set the “scope and terms of reference” for a WHO-led international mission aimed at learning how the virus jumped from animals to humans, a WHO statement said.Scientists believe the virus may have originated in bats and was transmitted to another mammal such as a civet cat or an armadillo-like pangolin before being passed on to people.A cluster of infections late last year focused initial attention on a fresh food market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, but the discovery of earlier cases suggests the animal-to-human jump may have happened elsewhere.In an effort to block future outbreaks, China has cracked down on the trade in wildlife and closed some markets, while enforcing strict containment measures that appear to have virtually stopped new local infections.The WHO mission is politically sensitive, with the U.S. — the top funder of the U.N. body — moving to cut ties with it over allegations it mishandled the outbreak and is biased toward China.“China took the lead in inviting WHO experts to investigate and discuss scientific virus tracing,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said Friday.In contrast, he said, the U.S. “not only announced its withdrawal from the World Health Organization, but also politicized the anti-epidemic issue and played a buck-passing game to shift responsibilities.”More than 120 nations called for an investigation into the origins of the virus at the World Health Assembly in May. (KGTV) – Detectives in Los Angeles are searching for more victims after they say a man exposed himself to a woman and juveniles at Universal Studios.Hershel Korngut, 34, was arrested after detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office say he exposed himself to a woman on the Universal CityWalk on January 1.Korngut was arrested on a misdemeanor charge, cited and released. Throughout their investigation, detectives found several other juvenile victims and, after searching Korngut’s home, found evidence of child pornography.Authorities say additional charges, including possession of child pornography, lewd and lascivious acts upon a child and sexual battery will be brought before a judge at Korngut’s upcoming court appearance.Detectives added that Korngut was employed at a hearing care facility and mentored at a youth organization in Los Angeles.Detectives are asking that any additional victims come forward by calling the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office at 818-622-9600 or providing an anonymous tip at 800-222-8477. 1072

US President Donald Trump has pointed to a massive caravan of migrants trekking north through Mexico as a major issue in the upcoming midterm elections.But when Election Day rolls around, on November 6, the caravan could still be somewhere in the middle of Mexico, given the group's current location, how fast it's been traveling and how long it's taken other groups of migrants to cross the country.On Tuesday, the caravan was in Huixtla, Mexico, about 50 miles from the Mexico-Guatemala border, where many of the caravan's members skirted authorities and crossed in rafts.It's still too soon to know exactly where along the vast US-Mexico border the bulk of this caravan will travel.The group only recently crossed into Mexico, and members are charting their movement daily.Organizers have told CNN they still don't know exactly which route they'll take. Much depends on the Mexican government and what routes the caravan is allowed to travel, whether its members are detained or held in certain areas and whether the group is provided with buses to speed their journey.There's a possibility some members of the caravan will split off and try to make their own way to the US-Mexico border, and that others will decide to stay in Mexico -- or return to their home countries. There's also a possibility Mexican authorities will detain members of the caravan at some point along their journey.The safest route would take them to Tijuana, across the US border from San Diego. A large caravan that crossed Mexico in the spring -- and also drew ire from President Trump -- took more than 30 days to reach Tijuana from Tapachula, Mexico -- a city this caravan departed on Monday.The closest border crossing to this caravan would be between Matamoros, Mexico, and Brownsville, Texas, about 1,111 miles away from the caravan's current location. But heading that way is considered a more dangerous route.To date, the caravan has traveled about 20 miles a day, largely on foot. If the caravan continues at that rate, reaching Tijuana could take months, and reaching Matamoros could take weeks. 2117

Two California men were taken into custody for reportedly dancing naked on a boat near Lake Havasu in Arizona on Saturday.According to a release from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, 38-year-old Jason Michael Faust and 37-year-old Robert Paul Yow were each arrested for felony indecent exposure. Officials say deputies had received a call that Faust and Yow were seen dancing naked on their boat at The Sandbar, north of Lake Havasu. The caller told authorities that three children, all under the age of 15, were present during this incident. When the family tried to confront Faust and Yow about their behavior, they reportedly became aggressive, and, "continued to show their genitals to the family."As deputies arrived, they observed that Faust, who was the driver of the boat, was inconsistent with his speed and made erratic changes in direction. Officials say both men reportedly admitted to taking their clothes off. Neither acknowledged knowing that children were present at the time, officers reported. Faust reportedly told deputies, “It’s the lake, it’s just what you do," and admitted that he had been drinking around since 7 a.m. but would not submit to a breath or field sobriety tests.  1267

Upwards of 70 percent of Americans plan to spend this Thanksgiving much differently than they did last year. Most will not be gathering for the holiday and a growing number are opting out of cooking a big turkey dinner this year. Instead, many will be ordering a to-go Thanksgiving meals from one of their local restaurants.That boost is helping restaurants stay busy, much busier than they have been for months.“It feels awesome to come in and do what we do,” said Richard Poggi, a chef and managing partner at the Delaney House restaurant and event venue in Massachusetts.Poggi has spent the past week prepping turkeys after seeing a surge of to-go Thanksgiving meal orders from the restaurant and Delaney’s local markets.“Our country as a whole really, really want to do the right thing and get through this,” said Poggi. “I think people are heeding the warnings and I think people understand what’s going on."Thanks to many people not gathering for the holiday and deciding to order out a Thanksgiving meal for themselves or their immediate family, Delaney’s is on pace to more than double the amount of to-go Thanksgiving dinners it sold last year.On average, it’s getting at least 200 new Thanksgiving to-go orders a day.“We are one of those restaurants that if you came here before the pandemic, you had to wait an hour or hour and a half to get in,” said Delaney’s Owner Peter Rosskothen.Rosskothen added the to-go Thanksgiving order boost comes after the restaurant has dealt with a 75 percent drop in business.“It has been hard to find money for payroll. It is hard to dig into your own reserve when you don’t want to, but you have to, to kind of climb through this,” said Rosskothen.That burden is being relieved for a few weeks now. More so, the boost of sales with to-go Thanksgiving meals is also giving his team glimmers of hope that they and other restaurants around the country can get through these difficult times.“It is keeping us hanging on and that is what we are doing, we’re hanging on,” said one Delaney’s worker.“I am hopeful, and they are hopeful,” said Rosskothen. “They see something like Thanksgiving happen and it’s a little lift.”It is a much-needed lift and reminder of what better days look like, thanks to the sacrifice many are making by not gathering this holiday. 2309
