SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Eight new cases of hepatitis A were reported throughout the county over the last week, according to the San Diego County Health Department. In total, 544 cases of hepatitis A have been reported throughout San Diego County. The new numbers come after the Board of Supervisors Monday extended the state of emergency amid the hep A outbreak.  RELATED: Board of Supervisors extends state of emergency for hepatitis A outbreakSince the outbreak began, 20 people have died from the infection. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Frozen raspberry products sold in eight Aldi stores in San Diego County and used in Escondido Union School District cafeterias have been recalled for possible hepatitis A contamination.The Season's Choice products are under the Aldi and Raley's supermarket label, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recall on Oct. 31. The raspberries were also used in yogurt parfaits served during breakfasts in cafeterias in the Escondido Union School District from Sept. 5 to Oct. 31.The recalled products are: (Aldi) Season’s Choice Raspberries (frozen) 12-ounce bags with “best by” dates of June, 10, 2021, August 1, 2021, and August 23, 2021. The UPC code is 0 41498 12419 9 and the lot codes are 20161A, 20213A, and 20235A.(Aldi) Season’s Choice Berry Medley (frozen) 16-ounce bags with “best by” dates of July 17, 2021, July 20, 2021, and July 22, 2021. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Five baby foxes were rescued from a South Bay construction site after a worker spotted them below a pile of cement rocks set for destruction.A construction worker at an Otay Mesa work site alerted his manager to the a Grey fox and her five babies this week, before crews were set to break down the pile with a jackhammer, according to San Diego Humane Society.Humane officers responded and removed the large blocks over the den with the help of construction workers. The days-old babies — two males and three females — made it out safely, but their mother fled over the commotion.Officers tried to lure the mom with fox pup sounds and her babies to no avail. Monday morning, SDHS says they were able to trap the mother. The babies and mom were brought to SDHS's Project Wildlife center for care, before being transported to Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona. 894

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Gun control activists filled Balboa Park Thursday, demanding gun control for the safety of students.Wendy Wheatcroft, the director of "Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense In America, says the event was in response to the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.  As a mother of three, she was horrified.“I want to be able to do everything in my power to make sure they grow up in a safe environment,” Wheatcroft said.RELATED: Victims of Parkland shootingWheatcroft says California has some of the toughest gun laws in the country and should be the model for the federal level.“In California, we have a gun law called the gun violence restraining order and this allows people to remove weapons from someone they deem to be a threat to themselves or others,” she said.  “If they had this law in Florida, they could have prevented this from happening.”RELATED: Vigil held for Parkland shooting victimsJim Miller is with the San Diego Gun Owner’s Political Action Committee.
