SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Developers behind Horton Plaza's planned redevelopment have reached a deal with Macy's, allowing the project to continue.Stockdale Capital Partners announced the agreement reached with Macy's to allow the downtown San Diego project to move forward. The massive overhaul will see the nearly vacant mall turned into a mixed-use tech campus.Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In October 2019, Macy's filed a lawsuit to stop Stockdale Capital Partners' project. The San Diego City Council unanimously approved reducing Horton Plaza's previous retail deed restriction and the project in May 2019, with the project slated for completion in 2021.“We are making a long term commitment to downtown San Diego and plan to quickly deliver The Campus at Horton as an urban hub for San Diegans to gather and a catalyst for thousands of high paying tech jobs, defining the future of downtown,” Steven Yari, managing partner at Stockdale Capital Partners, said in a release.The developer envisions the 700,000-square-foot campus will become home to about 3,000 to 4,000 new jobs. 1372
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Hospital leaders across San Diego County say they support Gov. Gavin Newsom's new regional stay-at-home order, which uses ICU bed capacity as the metric to impose stricter restrictions because of COVID-19."We're tight now. This is a serious situation, and we need everybody's help," said Scripps Health CEO Chris Van Gorder.Under the new order, if a region ever has less than 15% of its ICU beds available, the state would put an "emergency brake" in place, imposing more restrictions on businesses and activities.Van Gorder said several San Diego hospital leaders spoke with state health officials this week about the order and agreed the ICU metric was as good as any number to measure the severity of the pandemic.He said running out of ICU beds would devastate the hospital system, impacting anyone who needs critical care, not just COVID-19 patients."To be really blunt about it, people could die if we don't have the right equipment, beds and trained personnel to be able to take care of them when they have their emergency," Van Gorder said.A spokesperson from Sharp HealthCare echoed those sentiments, sending this statement to ABC 10News: "We want people to stay healthy and out of the hospital for COVID-19 by following safe practices so that ICU beds are available for patients who've been in serious accidents, cannot breathe on their own or had invasive surgeries."Van Gorder said grouping counties into regions make sense because many of them already fall under mutual aid agreements to help each other out."Imperial County is a classic example," he said. "Their hospitals back in July filled up very quickly, and San Diego was a lifeboat ... When you look at the broader region, there's a lot of hospitals within those regions, there may be some hospitals that aren't as impacted as other some other hospitals, so they're available and they're expected to take patients."According to state numbers, the Southern California region -- which San Diego County is a part of -- currently has 20.6% of their ICU beds available. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Flames shot out a window of a Spring Valley apartment that caught fire Thursday morning.The fire broke out at the home in the 10,000 block of Austin Drive about 10 a.m.No one was injured but the family who lives there says their cat died in the fire."I heard the beep beep beep and ran up the stairs," said Jacquline Amey, "I looked in the other room it was all smoky - opened the closet and it was engulfed in flames."San Miguel, Heartland, La Mesa firefighters and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department assisted in the emergency.The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 636
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Family and friends of a disabled Clairemont woman are making a plea for the arrest of a hit-and-run driver who left her with serious injuries.Last week, a beaming Delores Odom appeared at a surprise party for her 59th birthday. One of the attendees was her friend and neighbor Maritza Gates. "She was so happy that day. It breaks my heart to see her in the hospital now in so much pain," said Gates. On Saturday just before 6:30 p.m., Odom decided to take a walk to grab dinner. She was crossing westbound on Genesee Avenue in the south crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle that had been going westbound on Derrick Drive and made a left turn to southbound Genesee Avenue, according to police.Odom's daughter Brianna says her mother broke her back in two places. Odom has feeling in her toes, but still faces possible paralysis and requires complicated back surgery. Her recovery and rehabilitation is made more challenging because of a decades-old diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. "There's a special place for people like that. I don't understand how you could hurt someone and then leave them. My mom is one of the nicest people ever. You don't know someone's story when you leave them to die on the street," she said.Police say there is no description of the vehicle and are looking for witnesses. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Friday morning, SANDAG’s board will decide how to spend 0 million throughout San Diego County between roads, public transportation and other projects. According to a budget released by SANDAG, most of the funds will go towards transportation, not roads. The move has some throughout the county concerned that not enough will go toward roads in need of repair. “I'm pragmatic about it and I do worry about the fact that these tend to suck up all of the money and leave nothing left for highways,” said El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells.The concern comes after SANDAG announced “5 Big Moves.” The project focuses on the future of public transportation. Read all five points of the plan below: Complete CorridorsThe backbone of a complete transportation system that leverages technology, pricing, and connectivity to repurpose how both highways and local roads are used and managed. Complete Corridors would increase safety, capacity, and efficiency; provide dedicated space for high-speed transit and other pooled services; manage demand in real-time; and maximize use of existing roadways. Local roads are designed and operated to equally accommodate all users, including transit, cars, bikes, pedestrians, and commercial vehicles. Features may include dynamically managed curb space, transit amenities, bike facilities, pedestrian refuges, or smart intersection systems. Smart intersection systems would improve safety for all modes through use of sensors and alerts to vehicles and individuals, and could give transit priority treatments that make transit faster and more reliable. Wireless charging at parking facilities, intersections, and/or roadways will support future induction charging for zero-emission vehicles.
