SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Neighbors in College Area are a little more vigilant after a coyote attacking a chicken was caught on camera. Matt Dixon was grilling in his backyard when he heard squawking on the neighboring hillside. “One of the chicken flies into the fence,” said Dixon describing the video he took. “That’s when the coyote popped out of the clearing it there and made its way up and he eventually found what he was after.” Dixon posted the 28-second video online and found that people were quicker to forgive the coyote. “I got a lot of flak for not trying to help save the neighbor’s chicken and I can understand that,” said Dixon, “but it all happened so fast.” Other neighbors say they are more cautious with their children and pets outside knowing there can be coyotes in an urban area. 805

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Officials from Mexico and the United States held a joint meeting Friday to discuss binational relations, legislation, and urban mobility strategies. At the discussion, officials from both sides of the border discussed solutions to the Tijuana River contamination issue and the concept of a new port of entry. Board member Mario Lopez was joining the group from Tecate and he was very supportive of the new port of entry. He supports the initial plans to have an additional border crossing at Jacumba and Tecate. Lopez says that the wait time at San Ysidro is hurting the economic growth, “10 billion dollars lost because of border wait time” he tells 10News. About 20 years ago, SANDAG did a study and it showed the necessity of another port of entry. The Mayor of Imperial Beach, Serge Dedina tells 10News, “on of our biggest source of air pollution comes from the trucks and cars waiting to cross the border”. Right now, the Jacumba Port of Entry is a concept, “these projects take many years” Lopez tells 10News it will take another 10 years but in the meantime they’re hoping to get the funding to purchase the land within the next five years. Aside from economic and environmental impacts, supporters of the port of entry say it’ll also be beneficial for trade relations between California and Mexico. Another topic discussed at the binational meeting was the Tijuana River contamination issue. Mayor Dedina tells 10News the new president in Mexico is “looking at more public-private partnerships for public water reuse”. In fact, last year they passed a partnership with an Israeli company, Odis. It’s a filtration plant that will help lead a water reuse project south of the border. Dedina says, “the project could clean up 30 million gallons of sewage a day”. Compared to previous years, Dedina is more optimistic seeing steps being made to solve a major problem that continues to threaten our southern beaches. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – On Friday, the president of San Diego's Christian Youth Theater (CYT) held a press conference addressing this week's claims by several former students that they experienced sexual misconduct or sexual abuse by former teachers.CYT President Janie Russell Cox said the San Diego branch will remain dark until further notice as they investigate these abuse claims. “We are fully committed to the safety of every single child and we are grieving for every single individual whom we love and we care so deeply for. We apologize. [We] love you,” Cox added.The El Cajon-based program was founded 40 years ago and is for students ranging from 4 years old to 18 years old. CYT claims to be the largest youth theater group in the country with branches nationwide.Artist Brian Justin Crum, who went on to become a finalist on America's Got Talent, told ABC10 News on Friday that when he was 13 years old, his former CYT teacher invited him to a gay pride event. “I remember him questioning my sexuality and saying basically, like, you should come to this thing and see what you think and see how you feel when you're there and we can go together. I'll take you,” Crum said. “It was creepy. It felt inappropriate.”Crum said he was not assaulted but boundaries were crossed. “There was definitely a culture there where the teachers and the students were too close,” he added.On Tuesday, attorney Jessica Pride told ABC10 News that she's representing a former student who claims to have been sexually abused and several other former students have been contacting the law firm. “I think over the next couple of weeks as things unfold, you're going to see that this was just rampant at CYT and that they didn't do anything to protect these children,” said Pride.When asked Friday about whether staff ignored complaints from former students against former teachers, Cox replied, “I can't answer that. I don't have enough knowledge to know what decisions were made at that time and that's part of our investigation to find out.”Cox told reporters that CYT is starting a diversity committee and looking at doing restructuring to diminish favoritism, nepotism, and discrimination. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Normal Heights will become the testing ground for 7-Eleven's newest store strategy aimed at young consumers.The company will open a location of its "Evolution Store" concept at 3504 El Cajon Blvd. "in the next month or so," a company spokesperson told 10News.The store, geared to have a millennial appeal, will offer consumers options like made-to-order coffee and smoothie drinks, kombucha and cold brew on tap, and self-serve frozen yogurt.
