LUCIE, Fla. - The tourism industry is looking to bounce back after a tough spring and summer.One resort on the Treasure Coast is trying to appeal to people who want to mix business and pleasure with school.Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, located along the St. Lucie River, is one of the few resorts in the country that offers all-inclusive packages.Now, they are starting new programs that have places for parents and children to get their work and school assignments completed.With many families now working and learning from home, Club Med wants area residents to consider a getaway without abandoning your responsibilities. WPTV Sophia Lykke, the general manager at ClubMed Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, says the resort is working to attract families who can continue to work and attend online school. "We're open to anyone in the United States who want to make their way down to Florida," said general manager Sophia Lykke.She said they have set up two conference rooms that include one for kids to do their schoolwork.“We would have one of our mini club staff dedicated to chaperoning them. [They do ] not act as teachers but make sure they’re logged on [their computer] on time and doing their work," Lykke said. "We have a separate room for adults, which is basically like a working lounge where you can have coffee, snacks. If you need IT support, we have someone who can do it. PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — A couple believes they got bed bugs from shopping at Port Charlotte Town Center.Matthew Nystrom said he noticed bed bugs in his bedroom Sunday. Just one day after his wife bought new jeans for him at one of the mall's department stores.He said he didn’t know where the bugs came from at first, but he said they noticed the bugs the same day he decided to wear his new jeans. Then he found a bed bug gnawing at his leg.“Pulling it out of my leg was like…I better not tell my wife or she’s gonna freak out,” Nystrom said. Then he decided to tell his wife Hillary Nystrom.She said she read comments from other people on social media complaining about bed bugs at the mall. That's when she decided to check the other pair of brand new pants that they hadn’t taken out of the bag yet.“I pulled the one pair that were in there out and I just unfolded it. And there was one sitting right there,” she said, referring to a bed bug.She said she saw it in the shopping bag after they had the house exterminated by Ace Pest Management. Pest specialist Randy Wells shared a few tips on how to get rid of them as soon as possible.“Pretty much anything that you can throw in a dryer that you think has bed bugs or the like, just put it in at high heat on a cycle and that’ll kill the bedbugs. And again call a pest professional for a thorough inspection,” he said.Wells added people can also rid their homes of the bugs by avoiding taking affected items or even moving from room to room.Several other customers have complained on Facebook about finding bed bugs in clothing after shopping at Port Charlotte Town Center, too. One said a friend was bitten on her foot after wearing new shoes from a shoe store. PORTER RANCH (CNS) - A 7,552-acre brush fire continued to burn in the northern San Fernando Valley Saturday after damaging or destroying 31 structures, forcing about 100,000 people from their homes and creating dangerously unhealthy air quality over a huge chunk of the Southland.The Saddleridge Fire, which officials said was 19% contained as of Saturday morning, burned in the areas of Sylmar, Granada Hills and Porter Ranch.Ralph Terrazas, chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department, said 13 structures were destroyed, while the rest suffered varying degrees of damage.One person, described only as a man in his 50s, died of a heart attack Friday morning in the Porter Ranch area, according to the LAFD. Terrazas said the man was actually speaking to firefighters when he went into cardiac arrest, and he died at a hospital. According to reports from the scene, the man had been working to protect his home from the blaze.One firefighter suffered a minor eye injury, according to the LAFD.Humidity levels remained in the single digits Saturday, prompting an extension of a red flag warning until 6 p.m. Santa Ana wind levels were gusting lighter at 20 to 30 mph and could reach as high as 40 mph in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.A smoke advisory was issued by the South Coast Air Quality Management District through at least Sunday morning for the entire San Fernando Valley, areas west of central Los Angeles, and coastal areas west of the 110 Freeway. (AP) — An Oregon man who was rescued after five days stuck in deep snow with his dog is deeply grateful to his rescuers and embarrassed to have caused so much trouble, his aunt told The Associated Press on Monday.Jeremy Taylor's 4-wheel-drive vehicle got stuck Feb. 24 in snow on a U.S. Forest Service road as he headed to do some off-road driving in the wilderness outside the central Oregon city of Bend.As night fell, Taylor, 36, decided to sleep in his car with his Australian shepherd, Ally, and hike out the next day, his aunt, Denise Tremaine said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.Taylor fashioned some snowshoes from pieces of the roof rack he uses for his kayak and started off on Feb. 25. But after a mile (1.6 kilometers), Taylor had to turn around because the dog was sinking in the deep snow and could not continue.Taylor carried Ally back to the car and the two hunkered down there, sharing a sleeping bag to keep warm. Taylor had a full tank of gas and was able to blast the heat briefly when it got unbearably cold and ate a few packets of taco sauce he had with him, she said.He and the dog drank melted ice, but she said she does not think Taylor fed the dog hot sauce."That's his world right there, that dog.
