SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Businesses in the Gaslamp District were evacuated Saturday due to a natural gas leak. San Diego Fire crews evacuated several business in the area of Fifth Avenue and E Street in the heart of the Gaslamp District. All streets within a one block radius, from F St. to Broadway and Fourth Ave. to Sixth Ave., have been blocked off. Police are asking pedestrians and drivers to avoid the area.No injuries were reported. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- County health officials are notifying people who may have been exposed to tuberculosis at locations throughout San Diego County. According to County News Center, three unrelated cases of the disease were reported in San Diego County between August 20 and October 18. Two of the cases were reported at San Diego County Sheriff’s detention facilities. RELATED: Tuberculosis case confirmed at San Diego Airport, exposure risk extremely lowThe third case was found in a person who arrived from out of town after being diagnosed with TB and spent time at one of the city’s bridge shelters. Investigators believe the individual arrived in San Diego after leaving a Long Beach hospital without permission. The third person died from “co-occurring medical conditions” at a local hospital on October 6. The periods of exposure are listed below: Aug. 20 to Sept. 6, 2019 at the San Diego Central Jail Detention FacilitySept. 6 to Sept. 15, 2019 at the George Bailey Detention FacilityOct. 16 to Oct. 18, 2019 at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry FacilityAug. 20, 2019 to Sept. 9, 2019 at the 16th St. and Newton Ave. bridge shelterThe sheriff’s department is offering free testing for its staff and all identified people in custody while the County Health and Human Services Agency is offering free tests to those who may have been exposed and have no medical provider. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Boulevard Fitness in University Heights has closed its doors following a letter from the city threatening expensive fines and to force the business to close.The gym stayed open in the face of local coronavirus-related restrictions on indoor activities for fitness centers for more than a month, according to a letter from City Attorney Mara Elliott."To date, evidence we have reviewed shows your business has been out of compliance for more than 45 days. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - City leaders announced a new overnight parking lot on Tuesday for people living in their vehicles.It comes a day before the city committee on Safety and Livable Neighborhoods will vote on a new ordinance that would create restrictions on vehicle habitation.Living in a vehicle has been legal since a federal judge filed an injunction against the city’s law last August, saying it was too vague.The new ordinance would restrict living in vehicles within 500 feet of a school or residence at all hours of the day. It would also make it illegal to live in a vehicle from 6 pm to 6 am anywhere in the city, except in the approved lots. “The city cannot solve the problem, so their tactic is, “let’s hide it,’“ said Caesar, a man who lives in his van and wished to withhold his last name because he is currently looking for a job.He said he used to have a stable living situation but fell on hard times after paying for his two kids college tuition. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County health officials say they are taking aggressive measures to contain a flu outbreak at San Diego's migrant shelter. At least 16 migrants have shown flu-like symptoms; all were recently flown to San Diego from Texas by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement.Three migrants tested positive with a rapid influenza test."In order to take steps to prevent the spread of the disease we've become more aggressive in treating everyone with symptoms, regardless of when those symptoms started," said Dr. Dean Sidelinger, Deputy Public Health Officer for the County.RELATED: Flu outbreak sickens over 30 migrants at border centerBefore being admitted to the shelter, migrants undergo medical screenings.Migrants with flu-like symptoms are being isolated off-site in hotel rooms, along with their family members who are receiving preventative medicine.On Thursday, County Supervisors Dianne Jacob and Nathan Fletcher expressed their continued frustration with the federal government's handling of the migrant crisis. "Had we not taken these steps these migrant families would have been released by ICE at bus stops or transit centers without the medical screenings, without the treatment, without the attention, and without the help and support that we have provided.
