Students who survived the school shooting in Florida are using their voices to try and spur change. It’s young voices, that haven’t heard before who are speaking up.Seven seniors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School — Jack Haimowitz, Ronnie Froetschel, Vincent Frettoloso, Matthew Horowitz, Cole Sumner, Cain DeLima and Joey Mondelli — say they hope the tragedy spurs change.“The day that changed everything,” Mondelli said, when asked how he wants people to remember the day of the shooting.“I don’t want them to look at it as a statistic,” Somner said. “I want people to see this as the last one. I want people to look back at that day because that was the end,” Haimowitz said. These are seven faces of survival, family, and ultimately, they hope, change. “If there’s anyone that can change the outcome of situations, it’s going to be Parkland and we will change it,” Frettoloso said. “It’s tough when you’re by yourself so when you’re all together, it kind of get your mind off it,” DeLima said. Tonight, they’re freshly blonde, for their friend and victim, Joaquin Oliver. “His favorite artist was Frank Ocean, when he dropped his album 'Blonde,' it was about the time Joaquin dyed his hair this color,” Haimowitz said. “He was everyone’s friend.”“That kid didn’t know a single thing about lacrosse and he was out there screaming like he’s been playing it for the last 18 years,” Haimowitz said. On Wednesday, they grew up fast. “It’s a race for maturity. No one really told us there was going to be a starting line or a starting gun, they just expected us to go,” Haimowitz said. First, they will grieve. They have 17 funerals to attend. When the time’s right, perpetuate change. “An assault rifle, that’s a weapon made with intent to murder and harm people. So once we feel ready, we’re going to make our voice heard that our platform is built upon making sure weapons like these can’t get in the hands of people again,” Haimowitz said.  2042

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fell in her office Wednesday evening, according to a statement Thursday morning from court Public Information Officer Kathy Arberg.Ginsburg, 85, went home afterward, but she experienced "discomfort overnight" and went to George Washington University Hospital early Thursday, Arberg noted: "Tests showed that she fractured three ribs on her left side and she was admitted for observation and treatment."Falls are "incredibly dangerous," said Dr. Adam Shiroff, director of the Penn Center for Chest Trauma and an associate professor of trauma surgery at Penn Medicine. "Every trauma center across the country sees falls as an incredible problem, particularly in the elderly." 723

Not too long ago, to keep him company, a friend brought him a boy cat named Fluffy.Over the first few weeks they had together, Williams says he and Fluffy hit it off right away.“I looked at him and hey, I just fell in love with him,” said Williams.As it’s safe to say we all do with our pets, Williams talked to Fluffy quite a lot. When the senior got calls on his cellphone, he’d joke around with Fluffy then too.“The phone would ring, and I would say ‘ring-a-ding,’” said Williams. “And I didn’t know he’d pick up on it.”Then, a few days ago, Williams slipped and fell getting out of the shower. He couldn’t move.“My arm was pinned under me, and the hours kept going by,” said Williams. “16 hours…”From roughly 8 a.m. until midnight later that day, Williams laid in agony. The door was closed, and his Life Alert was in the other room on the charger. His phone was in the bathroom with him, but just out of reach on the counter.Lucky for Williams, Fluffy was in the room too. And whether or not he knew it, he’d been training Fluffy for this moment accidentally.“So I said ‘ring-a-ding Fluffy, you’re my only hope,’” Williams said, tearing up. “And he was. It wasn’t even five minutes later I felt something hit my hand. And I’m here because of it.”The cat had brought Williams his phone and he was able to dial 911.“I relive it a million times. What if he wouldn’t have been in there with me? I’d be dead today,” he added.Now Williams, who served with the U.S. Army in Korea, is fine – left only with some soreness and bumps and bruising. STOCKHOLM — Americans Paul R. Milgrom and Robert B. Wilson have won the Nobel Prize in economics for “improvements to auction theory and inventions of new auction formats.” The Nobel Committee said their discoveries have benefitted sellers, buyers and taxpayers. Monday's award comes as much of the world experiences the worst recession since World War II because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The award caps a week of Nobel Prizes and is technically known as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Since its establishment in 1969, it has been awarded 51 times and is now widely considered one of the Nobel prizes. 672

Tennis star Venus Williams has reached a settlement in the wrongful death suit centered around a fatal car accident, according to court documents.The accident, in which the other driver's Hyundai Accent crashed into Williams' Toyota Sequoia, resulted in the death of Jerome Barson two weeks later. His wife, Linda, was driving and was injured when the crash happened at an intersection in Palm Beach Gardens.Court filings from last week show that the case was dismissed with prejudice after a settlement was reached between Williams and Barson's estate, but the settlement amount was not listed.No charges were filed against the tennis star and a second driver over the crash in June 2017, Florida authorities said.An investigation supported by video surveillance showed Williams did not violate the other driver's right of way, the Palm Beach Gardens Police said in an investigative report obtained by CNN affiliate WPBF."Based upon this investigation and relevant Florida state statutes, no charges will be filed in this case," the report said. 1054
