Two uniformed police officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were denied service Thursday night at The Lodge at Cactus near Cactus Avenue and Southern Highlands Parkway.A post about the incident has received a lot of attention on social media.The graveyard police officers had gone into the restaurant for food and the bartender reportedly told them that the restaurant did not serve "you guys" anymore. The police union sent its membership a letter earlier today that called the incident disgusting and offensive.There was an incident and The Lodge has since apologized. The director of operations for The Lodge says they welcome all first responders and have been serving them for 30 years.The union says that it accepts the apology and believes it was an isolated incident involving one employee. LVMPD also sent the following statement to the media:An incident occurred on February 13, 2020 where two on-duty LVMPD officers were refused service at The Lodge bar/restaurant when they stopped for lunch. While we consider this behavior unacceptable, we firmly believe that the refusal was an employee acting solely on his own, and it does not represent the viewpoint of the establishment. According to management at The Lodge it welcomes law enforcement at its business. The involved employee has now been suspended from work. Strom Thurmond once led a 24-hour filibuster in opposition of passage of the 1957 Civil Rights Act. But for the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump, senators are being told to be quiet. On Wednesday, Senate leaders Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., issued an official memo concerning decorum during the trial. The decorum guidelines tell senators to not engage in conversation with neighboring senators during the trial. Senators also are being prohibited from using electronic devices, like cellphones, on the Senate floor. Senators were also told that the only reading material allowed will be those relevant to the trial. Other bullet points in the memo state that senators should refer to Chief Justice John Roberts as "Mr. Chief Justice." Also, senators were told to stand quietly when Roberts enters and exits the chamber. Two rural town school districts in the United States were shut down early for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend due to a fast-spreading stomach virus causing an abnormally high number of absences.Mesa County Valley School District officials in Grand Junction, Colorado, closed the school district to decontaminate November 20, the Wednesday before the week of Thanksgiving. A high number of students were increasingly calling out sick due to an illness going around. “Before the school district shut down, we were aware of at least 13 schools within (Mesa County Valley) School District 51 that had increased absenteeism levels due to illness and that number was growing,” district officials said on a Facebook live video, addressing the problem. “What we’re suspecting at this time is it’s very much acting like a norovirus.”On November 25, Greater Albany Public Schools in Albany, Oregon, announced a district-wide closure for similar reasons — norovirus was going around causing high levels of absences.“It spreads really like wildfire through a community,” said Dr. Chris Nyquist, the medical director of infection prevention and control at Children’s Hospital Colorado. “I think norovirus is one of those viruses that comes up in wintertime often when you have small communities, thinking about schools, where a lot of kids are together. It’s very contagious, spreads quickly.”Norovirus symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea and nausea that can last days.“The best method that these schools have done, in conjunction with talking to their health department, is to really shut down and do extensive cleaning,” Nyquist said.Norovirus can transfer easily through close contact, and symptoms start as soon as two hours later. In small communities like Grand Junction or Albany, an outbreak like this can have a large impact.“The thing that’s really special and unique about rural Colorado is that schools are often time the hub of the community,” said Elaine Belansky, the executive director for the Center for Rural Health and Education at the University of Denver. “They don’t have that many boots on the ground to address big challenges like this.”But those communities are doing what they can to stop illness from spreading just as the holidays begin.
