Summertime is almost over, and that means back to the grind. For parents, it can be stressful to get kids back on a good sleep routine.Lauren Preusz is a mother of three young children and knows vacations, cookouts and late bedtimes must come to an end. But how?"Bedtime definitely got pushed back a lot later than normal, and then they were sleeping in later," Preusz said. "But with school coming up they can't be staying up to 9 p.m. or 9:30 p.m., then waking up and getting to school by 8 a.m."She says she's worried about what later bedtimes could do to her children once school begins."I didn't want to worry about behavioral issues at school, or them being too tired to actually be present, participate, and learn," Preusz said.Sleep experts and doctors alike recommending rolling bedtime back about 15- to 20-minute a day until school starts to make sure kids are ready for a new sleep pattern."This is now the time you should be moving the bedtime up and that bedtime routine close to bedtime, so they associate the routine with the actual going to bed," said Dr. Celina Moore, a pediatrician.Preusz hired the Cradle Coach, a team of sleep consultants, to help get her family back in the routine of early bedtimes. The Cradle Coach team says kids need between 10 and 12 hours of sleep per night."Routine is huge," Cradle Coach sleep consultant Janelle Aubert said. "Start bedtime routine about 45 minutes before bed and making sure your child has plenty of time to unwind."In addition, Aubert recommends looking at children's diets and cutting back on sugar. She also says first-time students can experience some sleep regression from the stress of a new routine."Take time to prepare," said Aubert. "Talk about it. Show them pictures and visuals and be sure to increase quality and one-on-one time with them.""Start talking about exactly what's going to happen. Mommy is going to take you in the morning. Daddy is going to pick you up," Aubert said. This story was originally published by Tory Dunnan on 2025

STILLWATER, Okla. -- A puppy with upward facing paws has now gone through six months of intensive rehabilitation therapy in Oklahoma.Milo went from having to Army-crawl to running and playing. Before, or shortly after Milo's birth, his elbow joints dislocated. It affected his two front paws, turning them almost 180 degrees. Unable to walk or stand, Dr. Erik Clary performed corrective surgery at just seven weeks old back in January. His owners, who run Oliver and Friends Farm Rescue and Sanctuary near Tulsa, said it was difficult watching him in casts, not able to do anything. Jennie Hayes said they had to watch him constantly because he was immobile. Hayes said he never lost his spirit. "The first couple of days there was a lot of tears on my part and on Milo’s part," Hayes said. "Although, I can say Milo handled it a lot better than I did. He never lost his bark. He’s always had a lot to say, that certainly didn’t change.” Hayes said immediately after the casts came off, the challenge was holding him back for his own safety. As part of his rehabilitation, he went for short walks, swam and had muscle stretching exercises. After months of strengthening, Milo can now walk and play like other dogs. Dr. Clary said they had concerns that the condition would affect his growth, but they do not expect it to be an issue later down the road. However, he may be more at risk of getting arthritis, but Dr. Clary said Milo will now have a normal life. 1473

On Sunday afternoon, Cornett parked her food truck a few blocks away from the shooting, saying she’s donating all the money she’s making to victims impacted by this shooting.“Dayton does nothing but lift you up and support you, and they do that to every business here in town,” she said. “It’s just really upsetting because people now are going to be afraid and they’re going to be afraid to come out.”This community, however, did not hide in fear. Rather, it filled the streets where this shooting happened.Hundreds of people came out Sunday night showing support during a candle light vigil saying Dayton can remember those who lost their lives and eventually survive this tragedy. 1589

SELLS, Ariz. (AP) — The U.S. Border Patrol says two men who escaped from a Colorado prison said they were Mexican immigrants who wished to be deported when agents patrolling the U.S.-Mexico border found them. The agents kept questioning the men and discovered they were 35-year-old Jose Rodriguez and 42-year-old Raul Guzman, who had escaped a minimum-security facility in Florence, Colorado, this week. The Border Patrol says it arrested a 30-year-old woman who was driving the men, but an aiding and abetting charge was dropped because of coronavirus restrictions.According to a 593

Southwest Airlines lost million because of the government shutdown, the company said Wednesday. That's far more than its original estimate of to million in losses, and it adds to a litany of recent problems for the airline. On Tuesday, maintenance problems forced the airline to cancel 191 flights, or about 4% of its operation, according to data from FlightAware.
