(KGTV) — The Olympics may not be here yet, but locals don't have to wait to see athletes prepare for the chance to climb the Olympic podium.That's because Chula Vista is home to the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center, an official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site that's home to USA track and field, para track and field, rugby, archery, bmx, and para tennis. Silver tours walk visitors around the complex with an upclose look at the training sites. China said Friday it will temporarily reduce tariffs on imports of American-made cars as it tries to negotiate a trade deal with the United States.Citing the meeting earlier this month between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, the Chinese Finance Ministry said in a statement that it will remove the additional 25% tariffs on car imports from the United States for three months starting January 1. That will bring China's tariffs on American-made cars to 15%, in line with those for cars made in other countries.China also said it would suspend its 5% tariff on 67 other auto parts.China imposed the additional tariffs on US cars in July and on some auto parts in September as part of its retaliation in the trade war between the two countries.At their meeting in Argentina, Trump and Xi agreed to a temporary truce while they try to negotiate a broad trade deal over the next 90 days.In its statement Friday, the Finance Ministry described the decision to remove the tariffs as a "concrete action" aimed at helping to bring about a "mutually beneficial new Sino-US trade order."Xi pledged in April that China would cut tariffs on imported cars this year. His government delivered on that promise in July, reducing import taxes from 25% to 15%.But just days later, China imposed new additional tariffs of 25% on American-made passenger vehicles as the trade war with the United States escalated.The tariffs hurt profits of major automakers that ship cars to China from the United States. Germany's BMW and Daimler, the owner of Mercedes-Benz, have been hit particularly hard. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Sheriff's deputies were led on a wild chase through the South Bay Saturday, ending with a violent crash and three people injured, including a deputy.San Diego Sheriff's deputies were called to a report of a suspect burglarizing a vehicle in the area of 13th St. and Donax Ave. in Imperial Beach just before 10 a.m. When they arrived, the man took off and led deputies on a vehicle pursuit into San Ysidro.During the pursuit, deputies say the suspect hit a female driver on Dairy Mart Rd. before continuing northbound on Interstate 5, onto side streets in Chula Vista, and back onto NB I-5. At times, the driver reached speeds of 100 mph, deputies say.The woman was not injured, SDSO said.The pursuit came to an end when the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a bridge at the top of the H St. offramp. A deputy involved in the pursuit crashed into another vehicle at the top of the offramp as well. Both the deputy and that driver were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.The crash was so intense, it rained vehicle wreckage on the freeway below and damaged a woman's windshield. Bridge railings and fencing were also damaged, SDSO said.The suspect fled on foot from the crash, heading down the H St. offramp and onto the shoulder of I-5 before deputies captured him. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries. 1393

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Several Chula Vista elementary schools are working to give students hands-on engineering experience the district says they can take into the job market. On August 1, 2016, a new type of learning burst into being with the start of the Innovation and Energy Station in the Chula Vista Elementary School District. The station helps teach students STEM. The station serves sixth grade students as well as serving as a community lab. In 2018, the lab grew again to include the Energy Station at Saburo Muraoka Elementary School. In August of this year, the program grew yet again to include the Hydro Station, which teaches students about the water industry. The lab begins by helping students identify which careers align with their interests while highlighting jobs in San Diego’s priority sectors. “It was designed to give students the opportunity to learn about their own strengths," Michael Bruder, District engineering teacher told 10News. “The students’ eyes light up when they see the lab space. You get the ‘Wow’ effect. You literally hear the students say ‘Wow!’ as they enter,” Bruder continued. At the Energy Station, students use Minecraft to create an energy efficient home and/or landscape. Students exploring other themes could be testing wind turbines or building circuits. The program also offers students a connection with local employers, giving them the chance to connect their hands-on experience and the region’s in-demand skills. Qualcomm, Microsoft, SDG&E, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association all partner with the program. “I want employers to realize that career education must start before high school,” says Matthew Tessier, assistant superintendent of innovation and instruction at CVESD. “We’d love to partner with more people and expand to every single priority sector.”Click here to learn more about the program. 1950

(KGTV) — Police are searching for the person who shot several kids with a BB gun recently.Thursday just before 4 p.m., three children were walking home from school when they say they were shot with a BB gun by someone driving past them near Montevalle Park on Duncan Ranch Rd. The children didn't need medical attention, but they did have visible injuries, Chula Vista Police said.Two of the girls told 10News reporter Laura Acevedo that a white SUV pulled up next to them before they were shot."The windows went down, and they yelled cuss words at us, and then they just pulled out the BB gun and they shot us," Bella Budd told 10News."If they had hit us in the eye or anywhere else more dangerous, we could've been rushed to the ER or seriously hurt," Brianna Field added.Since that report, CVPD said two other people have also reported being shot with BB gun by an unknown suspect.A description of a vehicle or suspect wasn't immediately available.CVPD is investigating and says anyone with information is asked to call 619-691-5151. 1064
