A family in the San Francisco area received a letter from their son’s middle school recently threatening the child’s arrest for missing 90 minutes of Zoom class, according to local media.“This is our fourth child going through this middle school and out of the blue, we got a letter,” Mark Mastrov told KGO.The letter alleges Mastrov’s son, age 12, missed three 30-minute Zoom sessions as unexcused absences. The district says that makes the boy a truant of the state and makes him “subject to arrest” or a fine."He can become a truant of the state and he could be arrested. I said, ‘Are you going to come and try to arrest my son at my home, or try to fine me for not getting him to his Zoom class perfect, on time, everyday?," Mastrov told KGO.Mastrov’s son spends up to seven hours a day attending virtual school.The middle school told KGO the letter was the result of new state guidelines passed this fall in California that require districts to keep a closer eye on student attendance.“The letter is part of our responsibility to the state for our student attendance review boards. As always, the schools have a responsibility to ensure students are engaged and learning,” Principal Betsy Balmat told KGO.Mastrov says he has heard from other parents in the district who have received similar letters. They are now writing lawmakers asking them to change the law."Obviously we're in a pandemic and Gov. A female shooter and a male employee were shot and killed early Monday at a distribution plant in Texas, a Missouri City spokeswoman said.Officers responded to reports of an active shooter at the Ben E. Keith food distribution plant, Missouri City Police Capt. Paul Poulton said.Another employee was also shot and was transported to a hospital, Poulton said.Officers are still in the process of conducting secondary searches of the facility. A late snow in a small town might slow down the traffic, but it can't delay the final days for one of the community's gathering spots."This is when they see each other," said Parkman Township, Ohio Trustee Dennis Ikeler. "At the post office."Ikeler says after decades leasing out the building to the post office, the landlords told the township they don't think the building is safe enough for the public. They terminated the lease with a 30-day notice. The U.S. Postal Service says they'll be out by April 28th.The problem is that a lot of homes in the center of the town don't have any curbside delivery or mailboxes to receive mail. The more than 200 boxes inside the small post office have been their only option. When the building closes at the end of the month, they'll have the option to pay for individual boxes at their homes or have their P.O. box transferred to the Middlefield, Ohio Post Office, about seven miles away.Ikeler says traveling a few miles for mail isn't a big deal for most people he's talked to, but Catherine Dudich says it could be an issue for others."There's quite a lot of elderly people that live in the community and they can't get out every day to go get their mail," said Dudich. "It's sad that all these little communities are going by the wayside."Parkman residents say their P.O. Boxes have been free when they are normally rented out for a few months at a time. A Clarksville teacher was charged with assault after an incident with a student during a field trip to Nashville was reported to police.According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, Robert Neitzke – a teacher at Clarksville Academy – was arrested after he allegedly grabbed a student by his throat and pushed him against a wall.The alleged incident happened on March 3 while a group of students were staying at the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville. The police report said that Neitzke was the only adult on the trip.Around 11 p.m., Neitzke was reportedly trying to give students instructions for the next day and had to stop several times to get their attention. That’s when one of the students asked, “can we hurry this up,” and Neitzke allegedly approached the student and started to grab him. Police said Neitzke then said “it would be funny if your head hit the wall” before backing up and then grabbing the student by the neck before pushing him against the wall.The student told officers that he was able to say "get off me" and push him back. He told police that while he had no visible injuries, the squeezing of his neck caused “some discomfort.”Several other students were interviewed and all gave a very similar account of the incident, according to the report.
