The City of Glendale plans to vote on adding a permanent American flag to the top of Thunderbird Mountain. The Glendale Chamber Military and Veterans Affairs Committee sent a proposal to the city council asking to erect a flag. The committee will also manage it. Thunderbird Mountain falls within a conservation park, which means it is to be left as is. The picnic tables, garbage cans, and signage are all a part of the city's master plan, which is why they are allowed in the park. "We want people to enjoy it but not to disturb the wildlife the plants and not erect any structures in the park either, at least if they're not part of the master plan," said Vice-Mayor Lauren Tolmachoff. She is one of the council members voting to hold off on the change. "Not everybody on the council felt there was a conservation national park because there are signs and roads, and I disagree with that," she said. "You know there are roads in national parks, but they are still to be preserved and protected."No word on when the council will take an official vote, but it will likely be before the end of June.  1153

The E.W. Scripps Company, based in Cincinnati, Ohio announced it has added two television stations to its business, bringing its current total to 35 stations in 26 markets.The stations purchased are ABC affiliates KXXV/KRHD in Waco, Texas, and WTXL in Tallahassee, Florida. Both were owned by Raycom Media."These two stations are strategic additions to our portfolio," said Brian Lawlor, President, Local Media."We have been interested in expanding into Texas for some time as we believe Texas will play an important part in U.S. politics moving forward," Lawlor said of the KXXV/KRHD purchase.Scripps owns WFTS in Tampa, WFTX in Fort Myers and WPTV in West Palm Beach, making WTXL its fourth in the state."The addition of Tallahassee will allow us to better cover the state's politics as we expand our reach beyond 50 percent of Florida’s television households," Lawlor said in a memo to Scripps employees.The announcement follows Scripps’ news Aug. 15 that it has completed the sale of its 34 radio stations for .5 million.Scripps' stations are affiliated with all of the Big Four television networks: ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX. The purchase of the two new stations adds 130 employees to The E.W. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics released preliminary data on Monday, which shows U.S. airlines carried almost twice as many passengers in June than in May. According to the news release, BTS said data collected showed that 16.3 million passengers flew on large airlines in June, up from 8.4 million on all U.S. airlines in May.The BTS said airlines carried 80% fewer passengers in June than it did exactly one year ago.The data was by 20 airlines that carry 90% of the passengers, the agency said."June 2020 was the second consecutive month that the annual decrease in the number of U.S. airline passengers was less than annual change in the previous month," BTS reported.According to the agency, preliminary data showed a 77% decline in domestic passengers between June 2019 to June 2020 following more substantial annual reductions in May (88%) and April (96%).Preliminary data showed that international passengers on U.S. airlines declined 96% from June 2019 to June 2020, following annual decreases of 99% in April and 98% in May, the agency said.BTS says final U.S. airline traffic reports for June will be released on Sept. 11.
