The Confederate-themed Mississippi flag is drawing criticism from two big forces in the culturally conservative state. Walmart says it will no longer display the state flag because it includes the Confederate battle emblem. Displaying state flags inside stores is a common practice. “We know the design of the Mississippi state flag is being discussed by various stakeholders. While the issue continues to be discussed, we’ve made the decision to remove the Mississippi state flag from display in its current form from our stores," Walmart spokesperson Anne Hatfield said in an email statement.“We believe it’s the right thing to do, and is consistent with Walmart’s position to not sell merchandise with the confederate flag from stores and online sites, as part of our commitment to provide a welcoming and inclusive experience for all of our customers in the communities we serve," Hatfield continued. The Mississippi Baptist Convention is calling on lawmakers to remove the Confederate symbol from the flag because many people are “hurt and shamed” by it. The governing body for college athletics and other influential groups are calling for Mississippi to change its flag. Republican Gov. The family of Jacob Blake is hosting a gathering in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Tuesday ahead of President Donald Trump's visit to the city.The event, which will be held near the site where Blake was shot seven times in the back by a Kenosha police officer, will include a press conference with local officials and family representatives. The event will also include a community clean-up, a food drive, a healing circle, and a voter registration booth.Several days after police officers shot Blake during an Aug. 23 altercation, protests in Kenosha grew violent. The city estimates that million in property damages have been caused by looting and burning amid the unrest.Last Tuesday, 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse shot three protesters, two of them fatally, after he drove 20 miles to protect local businesses. Rittenhouse has been arrested in connection with the homicides; his lawyer says that Rittenhouse was shooting in self-defense.In recent days, protests in Kenosha have been peaceful and without incident.The event held by Blake's family comes hours before a visit to the city by President Donald Trump. Several Democratic politicians, including Kenosha's mayor and Wisconsin's governor, have asked Trump to reconsider, saying his presence could stoke more violence in the city.Blake was shot during an altercation with police on Aug. 23. The Department of Justice has issued a clarification after some social media users spread disinformation about the use of masks amid the coronavirus pandemic.As cases of COVID-19 spike throughout the country, several states, counties and cities have issued mandates requiring masks in public — and local media reports from across the country indicate that Facebook users in those areas may have seen a viral post containing inaccurate information.While regulations differ from state to state and city to city, many local governments have determined those with pre-existing conditions that would make wearing a mask difficult are exempt from the ordinances. But some viral Facebook posts indicate that the Department of Justice has required exemption cards for those who cannot wear masks.Many of the viral posts contain a screenshot of the "card," containing the Department of Justice seal and a reference to the "Freedom to Breathe Agency.""The Department of Justice has been made aware of postings or flyers on the internet regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the use of face masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of which include the Department of Justice's seal. These postings were not issued by the Department and are not endorsed by the Department," the DOJ said on its website.The Freedom To Breathe Agency refers to a private Facebook group opposed to government restrictions related to COVID-19 with about 7,000 members.
