SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rideshare drivers all over California are on strike protesting recent pay cuts by both Uber and Lyft. A small but vocal group of the drivers gathered at the San Diego airport Monday morning, opting to take part in a statewide protest against the companies they say are taking money out of their pockets. Recently, Uber announced it would be cutting drivers wage from 80 cents per mile to 60 cents. Workers say that’s on top of other cuts they’ve dealt with over the years. Drivers who spoke with 10News say other states like New York require companies to pay a minimum rate of more than per hour. Uber and Lyft both issued statements after the protest.Uber said in part, “…we're introducing a new Quest promotion feature, while also changing the per minute, per mile and minimum fare rates. These changes will make rates comparable to where they were in September."Lyft told 10News: "We are always open to conversations around how we can make Lyft better for drivers, but what we hear from the majority is that this is a flexible option that works for them." 1090

A new report by Apartment Guide ranks San Diego among the top cities in the U.S. for most extreme increases in two-bedroom apartment rental prices. According to the report, rent for a two-bedroom apartment is up more than 16 percent from the prior year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Responding to the aftermath of a disaster is a drill the San Diego Humane Society knows well.Just weeks ago the nonprofit’s Emergency Response Team was on the front lines of Hurricane Florence, helping over 100 animals; including pigs, cows, and peacocks.Lt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego drivers will have more opportunities to take care of driver’s license renewals and vehicle-related needs thanks to longer hours at California Department of Motor Vehicles offices. Starting Monday, 69 offices will be open for customers at 7 a.m., four days a week. On Wednesdays, the offices will open at 9 a.m. The DMV is offering extended service due to the high demand for Real ID compliant drivers licenses.The early hours will be available in San Diego County at the following DMV locations: El CajonOceansidePowaySan Diego (Hillcrest)San Diego (Clairemont)San Ysidro The Chula Vista DMV office has had extended hours since last summer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County issued cease and desist orders to several businesses Monday after the county entered the state’s restrictive purple tier.According to the county, the orders were issued to several local restaurants, gyms, and yoga studios.The news came after Governor Gavin Newsom hit the brakes on economic activity, moving 28 more counties into the state’s most restrictive tier.The purple tier restricts capacity at retail businesses, closes gyms, and limits restaurants to outdoor-only service.Monday, Newsom forced 41 of California’s 58 counties to the purple tier.
