BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang visited HIV/AIDS medical personnel, volunteers of non-government organizations (NGOs), and people living with HIV ahead of the World AIDS Day which falls on Dec. 1.In the voluntary testing clinic of the Beijing Diseases Prevention and Control Center (CDC), Li said counseling and testing are crucial to the early detection and early treatment of HIV/AIDS, and encouraged the clinic staff to work hard on the very front-line of HIV prevention and control.While visiting NGOs situated in the Beijing CDC, Li greeted people living with HIV and volunteers, shaking hands with them. BEIJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Trade volume between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2010 was 36 times what it was in 1991, the year in which formal relations between the two sides were established, according to new statistics.The volume is expected to reach 500 billion U.S. dollars in 2015, according to figures revealed Friday at the China-ASEAN Beijing Economic Forum, an event taking place in China's capital from Dec. 16 to 18 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the China-ASEAN relations.Ma Mingqiang, secretary-general of ASEAN-China Center, said China-ASEAN trade volume totaled 267 billion U.S. dollars in the first three quarters of 2011 and is expected to hit the annual target of 350 billion dollars this year.He said the two parties have become closely linked in the past two decades, as China is now ASEAN's largest trade partner while ASEAN ranks the third among China's trade partners.With the comprehensive implementation of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement in 2010, China has made 90 percent of commodities traded between China and ASEAN countries free of tariffs.China and ASEAN have enjoyed rapid social and economic growth since they established bilateral cooperation, said Surin Pitsuwan, ASEAN secretary-general.ASEAN can provide human resources, natural resources and raw materials for China's industrial development, and it in turn wants to win more investment from China, said Pitsuwan.He said the cooperation not only is a win-win solution for both sides, but will also make a positive contribution to the world.Guo Jinlong, mayor of Beijing, said the city saw a 21.5 percent year-on-year increase in trade volume with ASEAN in 2010, and will further strengthen its cooperation with the countries.ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

TAIYUAN, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China successfully launched the Ziyuan III satellite Monday from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern Shanxi province.The satellite, a high-resolution remote-sensing satellite for civilian use, was launched at 11:17 a.m. aboard a Long March 4B rocket, according to a statement from the center.The satellite, weighing 2650 kg, entered an orbit of 500 km above the Earth about 12 minutes after it was launched. It has a designed life expectancy of five years.According to the center, the satellite is tasked with offering services to aid the country's land-resources surveys, natural-disaster prevention, agriculture development, water-resources management, and urban planning.The rocket also carried a satellite from Luxemburg, according to the launch center.The orbiter was developed and produced by the China Academy of Space Technology, a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).The Long March 4B rocket is developed by Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, another CASC subsidiary. Monday's mission marked the 156th flight of China's Long March series of carrier rockets.

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia reported on Monday that some 54 Cambodian children had been killed by dengue fever in the first nine months of this year, compared to 37 kids dying of the disease in the whole year of 2010.From January to September this year, some 12,392 cases of dengue fever had been reported with 54 children killed by the disease. The whole year 2010 reported only 5,497 cases, Ngan Chantha, director of dengue control at the Ministry of Health, said on Monday."This year's rainy season has been plagued by floods, leading to more cases of the disease," he said. "I would like to appeal to parents to let their children sleep under mosquito nets and if their kids have any symptom that is suspicious of the disease, they should urgently send them for medical attention."Dengue is caused by mosquitoes. The disease causes an acute illness of sudden onset that usually follows symptoms such as headache, fever, exhaustion, severe muscle and joint pain, swollen glands and rash.In Cambodia, the outbreak of dengue fever usually begins at the onset of the rainy season from May to October. 

SHANGHAI, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's homegrown C919 large passenger plane has finished its preliminary development review and entered the development phase, a senior executive of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd. (COMAC) in Shanghai said Friday.An expert team of the C919 project has approved the overall preliminary development review (PDR) of the passenger jet, said Jin Zhuanglong, president of the Shanghai-based COMAC.It is expected that the manufacturing process for the components of the prototype will begin by the end of 2011.COMAC signed a deal to sell 20 C919 large passenger planes to China Aircraft Leasing Company Limited (CALC) on Thursday.Up to now, the users of C919 large passenger planes have reached 10 and total orders amount to 215 units.COMAC said earlier it would develop both 168-seat and 156-seat models of the jet, with more models to be developed in the future.It also said that test flights for the single-aisle C919 were scheduled for 2014, and delivery is slated for 2016.
